Very interesting. Is this Nintendo's answer to the smash hit PSPGo? The 2DS that brings you everything the 3DS does without its single unique selling point?

But all that said, I have been looking at a 3DS for my girls and this could well be the cost-effective answer. It may actually be a good move for Nintendo in a really weird counter-intuitive (for me) sort of way. But not folding closed? That's just bizarre.

I don't quite get the point for this, for one thing it looks just awful, why not a clamshell design and just exactly how much cheaper is this going to be, the 3ds is really reasonable now.

This doesn't seem like Nintendo's style of advert, which makes me think it's fake... and that design is atrocious. It literally looks like someone photoshopped out the hinge of a 3DS XL and then actually made it.

That ad feels like it came from the early '80s. Oh Nintendo, you so crazy. That's probably a grown man dressed as a kid to make the system look smaller.

They're just doing this for people who cant afford the 3ds, right? Hopefully battery life is way better but Ninty sure whacked it good with the ugly stick!

Apparently it's official, it's hitting everywhere now. From a marketing pov it's just hard work, there'll be so many parents at Xmas unsure of whether 3DS games play on the 2DS, how the original DS fits in, why the 2DS is promoted over the 3DS as to their mind the 3 suggests being the successor, why there are no '2DS' games out etc

From a budget pov I can the appeal for peeps who don't care about the 3D effect but the price a 3DS can be bought for undermines this.

That's without mentioning the pointless and awful design.

One to sit with the Wii Mini...
