See my post further up. Welsh guy in Australia = this update is for me.

I've got the beta update. It has worked wonders with the recognition to the point where it's almost perfect. A few dropped commands here or there but nothing compared to how it was. The wife has a neutral English accent so it hears her fine as well. All good.

There's a few bugs in the beta such as settings being reset or the wrong language profile being set (it says UK but it's still US). Those will be ironed out pretty soon.

With this and the achievements snap it's another great addition.

I rebought DR3 at the weekend and was greeted by 16gb of updates!
Saying that , it only took about 20 minutes before it was ready to play , so there is no way there was actually 16gb of data

This is half the issue, I am not even sure the updates are accurate in terms of their stated size. That might just be worse case based on whats already been installed and what hasn't.

Unless you are replacing entire levels I really cannot see what they have to be so big. MS need to get a handle on that,

Not that anyone actually plays Sniper Elite, so it doesn't really matter!

The cynical side of me doesn't believe Rebellion's statement. It sounds as if the game simply wasn't finalised or things came to light after the game went gold and rather than delay they've used that time between pressing discs and release date to finish those things off. Optimisations on day one amounting to 10GB of data?!

Doesn't it carry on installing in the background? so if you are playing single player game it often lets you play, but if you try online, you'll be denied.

Wonder how long ago the game discs were pressed, can't have been more than what three or four weeks ago? anyone got any inside info?

The disc installatation carries on in the background, I think patches require full download/installation before the game is available to play.
Dead Rising because "ready to play" at 60%, so it had downloaded the patch and had partially installled the disc.

Battlefield and Burnout both had a couple of Gig sized auto updates in their later years I believe.
Or they were listed as free content downloads that were required to play.

Other than that, MS themselves out a Physical size restriction of 4MB for several years, then that changed to 200mb later on in it's life.
The PS3 never had that restriction, which is why games like Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet and Pain all had updates totaling 5GB plus over their life span.

It's fairly typical for games to have been announced as having "Gone gold" maybe 3-4 weeks before launch, this is when the game itself is handed over to the console manufacturers for final compatibility testing and certification

I don't believe that they have the same certification in place on the updates, so certain content or changes that may have caused instability in a disc release may get left out, so they can continue to work on them and patch them in day one.

I just cant see how any update needs to be that big. If you are adding DLC fair enough, new maps etc are not small these days. Unless yuo are changing fundamental data in the game though the update should be minimal, really doesn't make that much sense.

I suspect the way the One works is that the game files are large chunks rather than smaller files though, so when they change one bit they have to change the rest as well. That's all I can think of.

That 10GIG must significantly alter some stuff, as it reduces the size of what is on the HDD by 2GB
