Btw... Yep I use Skype a lot on XBO. Always chatting to friends and family back home in the UK and having the auto pan/zoom of the Kinect camera is amazing, as is the voice quality.

A mate I worked with here was actually chief architect on the Skype app.

oh yes, forgot about the Bing-search. i doubt it supports German though... will have to check it out.

unfortunately Youtube does not support voice search, otherwise the Xbox One Youtube app is pretty fantastic and even outperforms the PS3 version with 1080p video playback support. it just looks fantastic!

to have Skype available with Kinect is nice but if you already have it on your iPad, Smartphone, TV or PC it's really just another option. and i would guess my Samsung smartphone is a better Skype device since it's mobile. what resolution does the Kinect cam record and send?

I dunno but definitely try Skype for Xbox One if you use it regularly as the general video tracking & zoom functionality is excellent. I've been there walking around the lounge, into our kitchen etc... And it tracks who is talking at any time and zooms in/out to frame the conversation.

Quite honestly it was amazing for calling home over Xmas with lots of people to chat to, much better than being huddled around a tablet though obviously still not mobile.

sound like a nice feature, will check it out with the next occasion.

but honestly i remember when i played Rainbow Six 3 on my Xbox supporting voice commands and team chat. it was a fantastic new experience and i everyone was amazed it worked. i thought we were very close to having smart voice recognition and being able to talk to our computers within very few years. today my smartphone still doesn't know punctuation, so it's more or less useless for hands-free business email and messages. what have the devs and IT experts done in the past 10 years?

              The cloud is coming

I would actually love to see a game on XBox One that made use of the cloud in this way and be proved wrong. If the tech really can be used in this way that'd be amazing from a technical point of view. I have to wonder if the money spent on this cloud though wouldn't have been put to better use making every XBox One more powerful to begin with i.e. sell the consoles at a loss up to the amount of money that'll be spent on the cloud infrastructure fro the lifetime of the console and avoid all the massive issues surrounding offloading physics calculations, concern over broadband infrastructure etc.

So if you are cloud gaming and your internet connection has a blip or is acting up then the game breaks?

Well you'd imagine they'd code their way around that by allowing the system to fall back to local processing only mode. If you do that though then it means that none of the physics calculations etc. are allowed to have any real meaning in the game and can only be used for superfluous stuff that doesn't affect gameplay, otherwise you end up with a different game depending on the quality of your internet connection. I suppose that could be ok as well though but can you imagine the gameplay testing headache!? You can tell from my ramblings that I still consider the whole thing to be an utterly ridiculous venture but of course I'm not being paid to think up and solve these problems although I do have experience developing parallel systems that run across multiple bits of diverse hardware and know that it is a headache; I imagine that making a game this way would be even harder.

Drops textures, turns the AI to idiots, and we get blocky shadows, reduces res to 720p and fps to 30fps tunring it into an xbox one game basicly

That was pretty nice of Microsoft ... When Sony have a security flaw I end up having to change my debt card and all my passwords.
