NSMBU I found fun for a while but the novelty wore off quick, had to almost force myself to finish it. Is each to their own.
Mario World 3D was a pure delight from start to finish.

I found NSMBU a bit of a chore to finish too. It annoys me that Nintendo don't flex their creative muscles with the NSMB games in the same way that they do with the 3D Mario titles. 3D World felt like it was overflowing with imagination and creativity. NSMBU just...didn't.

It's still a solid game though.

I'm having to do the same with 3D World. I can tell when playing it that everything's great - i'm just not feeling it like with Galaxy 1 & 2 and it feels like a chore collecting everything. What I really want is a full on 3D platform/adventure Mario game like 64. Proper controllable camera, levels that aren't teeny and a little searching and exploring. Job done. These 2.5D hybrids are fine, but just don't feel as epic or hold interest for as long. I'd even take Sunshine over 3D World.

On the other hand, I picked up Super Mario 3D World this week and it has convinced me that Nintendo are still alive and kicking, and they can still make fantastic games. I've not turned my PS4 on since buying a WiiU 2 weeks ago.

They certainly can still make great games, but two or three a year on a system with no third party support isn't sufficient.

Have you made sure your TV doesn't have that frame-blend nonsense going on? That's what got me at first. How does it feel compared to playing on the gamepad?

Oh I'm certainly not suggesting that the WiiU isn't in trouble. The reality is that whatever third party support that still exists is largely because of the continued support for the PS3 and 360. Once support for those consoles declines, third party WiiU games will also dry up. As good as Nintendo games are, a console that exists largely for the games of a single publisher is always going to be niche at best.

But any suggestion that Nintendo games lack quality is premature.

Pop'n Twinbee (SNES) is coming to the VC this week, used to love that game back in the day.

                  Wii U Virtual Console

Pop'n Twinbee (Konami, €7.99 / ?5.49) — The news that this was coming West late last year was tempered by just one thing — would we be lucky enough to get the "awesome" SNES version of this cute shooter? The answer is yes, so it arrives in all of its colourful glory, with a two player mode perfect for sharing this retro delight with a friend. This is the European PAL version, for reference, and we'll bring you a review as soon as possible.

Nice. Now, only if those games didn't cost so much. I say €7.99 for those games is way too expensive. I got one (Contra 3) just for the novelty but the price is putting me off to get another.

Few bits this week on the eShop

Vertical shooter Gaiabreaker, info is sparse and this video is a few months old, will be a tenner.

Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land — The rate of new Game Boy Advance releases on Wii U continues at a steady pace, with Kirby now joining the fray. Expect plenty of power-ups and an overload of cuteness, while one button mini-games play a notable role.[/quote]

                      Earthbound is reduced too

                      EarthBound (Nintendo, €5.99 / ?4.19 until 24th July, normally €9.99 / ?6.99)

Why make a new tate shooter and have a mechanic where you can fly off the edge of the screen to move the view left and right why not just show more of the screen? Hmmm so ?10 yeah, ok right that seems like value for money

But it's a shmup so it is automatically cool, qwerky, Jappoknees and at ?10 that's a complete bargain because shmups are expensive.

                                Right?
