Maybe planning on paying royalties in advance on something like that would have worked out better than having to pay out $30.2 million for stolen 3D tech AND a fixed rate on every future console sold on the one device that seems to be selling?

Nintendo barely have enough time to rinse the ip's they have got, the wiiu still needs a new Nintendo franchise though
Metroid reboot in a 3rd person style as the Metroids on wii where a bit faceless Zelda x gears of war hybrid with massive bosses.
Blastcorps i want a new Blastcorps with multiplayer i want to smash the **** out of stuff with buddys, online scoreboards and diggers, if Rare own the ip call it Ninten-diggers for all i care just make it.
Pilotwings with a a new island to explore, balls to you Nintendo island.
Excitebike, as the n64 one was the best dirtbike game ive ever played.
Fzero come on you nobs and while your at it a Waverace too.
1080 Snowboarding, realistic deep snow and none of this "Awesome dudes lets jump out of a airplane" ssx ****e.
Starfox which isn't a rejig of the N64 one epic space battles and talking frogs its not difficult no ****e Zelda rpg stuff and no strategy stuff.
luigis mansion 2 hd port the fook out of the 3ds one
and if you waste my time with anymore Mario party games, New Super Mario Brothers, or fitness pokemon games that arent bigger versions of the handheld games you get a smack in the chops.Last edited by Lebowski; 21-01-2014, 14:44.

or start a subscription service alla playstaion+ where you get to play a massive amount of nintendo classics on or offscreen call it something confusing like Vitua-U so no one sees the true potential of the service or can work out what it is , Except a the loyal clique of Nintendo fans, there the are the only ones paying for it, cannibalizing all there future virtual console sales.

I think it depends with Nintendo on approach. The system rrp has to be in an affordable sweet spot and the key sequels need to be ready in time. The 3DS had the same issues but turned it around thanks to a change in price and the launch of a true handheld Mario and Mario Kart double whammy that built momentum back. Now, I do believe the same was possible with WiiU but Nintendo allowed the PS4 and XBO to launch without a fight and it's too late now.
A Nintendo system needs clear branding and a good price. What it also needs is key titles in the first year, almost like being front loaded for the first two-three years then letting momentum carry it to make people desperate for the system early on during the hype and sway third parties their way before any rot has a chance to set in.
I'd say you can tier Nintendo ips into how important they are.
Tier 1
3D Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros, The Legend of Zelda
Tier 2
Metroid, 2D Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong Country
Tier 3
Pilotwings, Mario Party, Mario Tennis/Golf, Fire Emblem, Kirby
Tier 4
Mostly everything else inc Pikmin, Wii Play, Pilotwings
They need at least 2 T1 games out in the first year, ideally one at launch with T2 padding then others following of fitting in between on the schedules. We're nearing WiiU's 15th month and not a single Tier 1 game. Now, yes Mario 3D World is awesome but I do feel its surface similarities to the 3DS entry mean the general public don't consider it a true sequel after Galaxy and was therefore easy to overlook especially in light of its rivals thunder. Mario Kart 8 looks great but its entering a poisoned well so will look unpopular simply due to having such a poor sized userbase which will be a shame, same goes for everything that follows it.
Clear slate is definitely the way to go, Nintendo need to ride WiiU out, focus on 3DS and getting its successor and their next console lined up right. Can they reach 22m units sold... I think so, but it'll be a last minute endurance goal. I think the new system will be revealed at E3 2016 and launched in 2017.

Without getting the message clearly across to a lot of people in sustained marketing, and getting 3rd parties back on board, its done, and all this is moot.
One things for certain however, with a near 20billion war chest along with all their assets, they aren't going anywhere in the long run, they just made an utter pigs ear of the wiiu.

Nothing in that 'opinion' about the Wii's 'new to gaming' customer not returning to the Wii U because they do not know what the f**k it is. Lets face it, most of the Wii's sales were to new customer because the Wii made gaming 'accessible'.
Wii U is one of the worst marketed consoles in history, that is the problem.Last edited by 'Press Start'; 21-01-2014, 16:42.

Could not agree more with the above statement. They need to be around for many years but have to confess to play more games on my ipad and phone more than any other machine of late and my kids are the same. Bought both new machines at christmas and can count on one hand the amount of times they have been switched on. Looking forward to the new F- fantasy next month and that's on seven year old tech. Nintendo need to think long and hard about their next business plan indeed.

Nintendo need to start giving away an eShop game each week, and keep them available as a free download to get some sales up. They can be a Gameboy game one week, SNES game the next, Indy title the next, this would give people some software to get their teeth into, and more importantly it might get folk sitting on forums and writing articles saying "The Wii-U is the machine I have on most" and get others thinking that they maybe should have this.
The marketing was crap, the name was crap, the whole launch has been crap, and to be honest now I have played Mario 3D World and Zelda (again) I am not to sure what else I am looking forward to.
