Selling without the gamepad could be a good idea, I really like the pad personally but losing it could reduce the cost.
I've only got a few games for the Wii u but I brought it knowing this could be the case. We all know the games are gonna be few and far between, I'd rather there was more but it's not gonna happen.

Surely most gamers (not casual) have a couple of consoles to make sure they have games to play? I brought the Xbox one myself last week, haven't got any games for it ha ha

If Jaz and J0e could step outside for a minute while everyone else continues the sane discussion, that would be great. Thanks.

I think I'm going to definitely need the ethernet adaptor thingy as well as a wireless sensor.

My TV looks ridiculous with Kinect above it, PS4 Camera below it and a wii sensor bar on the stand.

The problem the Wii U has is that while it does need some more games, the real issue is that games are more like snacks today. There are plenty of people, especially on here that want to ram the latest goodies down their throats asap and in reality, probably rarely enjoy them to the max.

With Mario Kart, it will last. Certainly more than the two weeks most games do.

Christ todays update takes an age to install. Can't be that big a file surely.

I think a Wii without gamepad and including a decent game for sub-?150 would sell very well indeed, and it's not entirely without precedent in terms of hardware (Kinect, and the 3DS's transformation into 2D). It would hardly punish the rest of us either - we'd still have a system plus gamepad we could use for off-TV play.

I'm not convinced it'll ever happen, though - games like Wind Waker and ZombiU rely heavily on it, and presumably every game released so far would have to be patched to make it compatible with a pad-free system...

Yeah my update took a long while too, thought it was just me. Though i have to say it has really made booting up the Wii U much quicker.

Turned on PS4 while waiting and that needed updating too. Crikey, guess I'll talk to the missus/kids instead.

3mbit connection and it's looking like it'll take 5 minutes tops. Love the way it didn't ask or anything, just said I'm updating, deal with it! Lol

Saw this over at shack. Here is the update performance breakdown.

Wii U System Update -- 15 Seconds from being off to being in a game.

                      Prior to tonight's system update:

                      - Wii U boot to menu took over 25 seconds to get to

                      After tonight's system update:

                      - Wii U Quick Boot Menu - 1 second (they built a menu into gamepad's itty bitty memory - ingenious)
                      - Wii U original Boot Menu - 14 seconds (Reduction by about 10 seconds or more)
                      - Wii U Quick Boot Menu to Booting to Game (Nano Assault Neo Tested) - 15 seconds.
                      - The Quick Boot Menu organizes 10 of your most recent games or apps
                      - The Quick Boot Menu reduces the time to get into a game by 25 seconds
                      - The Original Boot Menu to game time has been reduced by around 10 seconds
                      - Icons on the Original Boot Menu populate way faster.
                      - Overall, very much welcome update

?129.99 bundled with MK8 and a pro controller in place of gamepad.

It would suck losing the gamepad when you are used to it, but from a business view...it makes more sense.

Maybe Nintendo will begin HDifying the Gamecube back catalogue ala Windwaker. It would allow them more breathing space to develop new titles and could help keep the MK8 bandwagon rolling. Fzero and Waverace would both look great in HD and a remade Metroid Prime fugedaboutit!

                            Agreed.

I adored Waverace Blue Storm on the GC, for me better than the N64 version with some of the best water effects to ever be seen, certainly that generation.

LOL to those on here who think that Mario Kart 8 will singlehandedly turn Wii U's fortunes around - it won't.

For me, the machine has this year at best and that's being generous. It's surely E3 or bust for Wii U, no?
