Whilst it is pretty fashionable to hate on Sonic, I do still think that Sonic 1/2/3&K are some of the finest games of their era.

CD I don't think has stood the test of time. It's like Chaotix; a bit of a curio and interesting, but I've never thought it to be a genuinely good game.

It's a really interesting series overall, just to do with how it yo-yos with reckless abandon between quality, sometimes actually in a single game! Sonic Generations is a great example; some superb levels, some dross, some terrible bosses... I mean they included Crisis City from Sonic 06 as a level. They had the entire series of Sonic to choose from, and they chose a level from Sonic 06?? That doesn't work in concept, on paper or in execution.

I can honestly say I never liked sonic, never thought they had an ounce of quality, I only enjoyed adventure1 on dc lauch, but always thought the 2d ones were utter crap, finest games of their era? If you were off you face on coke and acid at the same time maybe?

I'm happy for the franchise to go die in a dark hole somewhere, it won't be missed.

Wow, that looks awful, still kept my pre-order incase it just turns out a bit rough, rather then god awful. I loved the old-skool 2D games including the Master System/GameGear ones.

I enjoyed the Adventure games, but I was the right age to look past it's many, many flaws... Since then though, enjoyed Generations, but not much else, didn't play Colours though apparently that's good...

          That's a bit of a cop-out, no?

Sonic really hasn't been great since moving from 2D to 3D. Even the most recent 2D/2.5D games in the series have been poor.

I'll take your point about Sonic CD - a consequence of Sonic Team being fragmented around the time Sonic CD and Sonic 2 were being developed, hence why Sonic CD feels like Sonic 1 more than 2. But I'd still rather play CD over any of the post-MD games in the franchise.

Have you really played them or is just going on the hate hype . I agree that Sonic games on the Mega Drive were vastly overated aren't really that great up against Mickey Mouse or Quakeshot Revenge Of Shinobi , never mind the perfection of the likes of Mario IV But Generations, Sonic Colors were really good games and very good Sonic games and far from poor, even Sonic Lost World wasn't truly poor .

Looking over this apparent pile of crap : Its seem cool to jump on the hate bandwagon just like it is for Call Of Duty, Resident Evil

I love the suggestion that people my age do anything because it is cool. Even better, that I might hate plummeting through platforms to my doom because it's cool. Going to totally impress the kids with that one.

                Here we go again.

Yes - I have played all of them. They are all average at best. Sonic Colors and Lost World pretty much do their level best to copy Super Mario Galaxy ffs. And it's pretty damning that you're citing Generations - a mashup of previous Sonics not even executed well - as some sort of top title.

Quackshot and/or Castle of Illusion compares to Sonic 2 or Sonic 3/S&K?

Revenge of Shinobi isn't even the best MD Shinobi - that honour belongs to Shadow Dancer and has done for years now.

But please, feel free to stay on your very own hype bandwagon.

With Nu Eclipse on this. However if you check my PSN or Xbox Live account you will see I haven't played the latest ones on my own machine so in clearly lying.

                  Etc.

Yes but how many people have actually played and completed 6 that say Resi is bad?

Some people say Resi 4 is bad, that's completely bonkers.

Aside from 6 who says Resi is bad anyway? Resi 5 is Capcom's best selling game ever you know, can't be that bad.

I'd happily rank Resident Evil as bad at the moment. Certainly not RE4 but RE5 was a massive quality decline that scraped by just enough. RE6 was god awful though. CoD is definitely on the over criticised pile, along with Assassins in my eyes. Not that both those series didn't come off 2013 duffer entries though I admit. For my money, for Sonic-Post Knuckles:

-Sonic Adventure: Decent for its time
-Sonic Adventure 2: Issues but a more enjoyable game than the first Adventure
                        -Sonic Heroes: Poor
                        -Shadow the Hedgehog: Atrocious
                        -Sonic the Hedgehog 2006: Atrocious
-Sonic and the Secret Rings: Slightly weak
-Sonic Unleashed: Moments of promise but generally poor
-Sonic and the Black Knight: Poor
-Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1: Poor
                        -Sonic Colors: Decent
-Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2: Average
                        -Sonic Generations: Average
                        -Sonic the Lost World: Atrocious

Based on that I'd pin the end of Sonics appeal at the end of Adventure 2. They weren't overall as good the 2D entries finest but I have many happy memories of both even if time has ravaged them. Certainly, the Sonic Cycle is no myth.

The best thing to come related to Sonic in recent years? The Sonic All Star Racing series.

On a re-read, I did sound a bit condescending. I wasn't trying to imply that "everyone who hates Sonic has just jumped on the fashionable bandwagon"; rather that disliking the series has moved beyond the games and has become a thing in and of itself. There are plenty of good reasons to dislike Sonic after all. Sonic 06 is potentially the worst "big budget" game I've ever played.

                          On the other hand...

Well, you're entitled to your opinion - I really dislike Modern Warfare and the CoD games, but I begrudgingly accept that they're very good games because of how well they do critically and financially.

That being said, I remember the earlier Sonic titles very fondly. Not that there weren't other very good MD platformers; Rocket Knight Adventures springs to mind.

Single player wise, the CoD games are mostly bad with a couple of decent entries. That's the area of them I play. In fact, with all the hacking that goes on, I would say they are fundamentally poor products.

To be fair it's just my opinion. I personally never found anything of worth in the 2d ones, enjoyed adventures despite its massive faults. Finest games of their generation (or up there) just no, I stand by that.
