Yeah completely agree. I always used to buy a game based on how much I thought I'd enjoy it.

Reading a certain American forum you'd think gamers these days need an arbitrary set resolution before anything is worth bothering with.

I don't think it's a bad thing that people are seemingly becoming more knowledgable about the technical side of gaming. It might spark some extra debates, but I most people would agree that the gameplay will always be the most important element.

If it was only about gameplay the WiU would be the best selling condoles of this gen.It isn't times have changed and people should be allowed to debate the relative rights and wrongs and the positives too,
If i splash out near 500 for a console & game and it can hardly do much more than the gen that just went past. Was like football you pay your money if you want to call out the players for not playing good or thinking they ain trying you should be able to, your paying their wages. Same applies when i buy games and a console.

What we're seeing with TR and this is the difference in graphical power and RAM. Its something MS cannot overcome. Its just there and these architectures aren't freakshows we saw on Ps3 last gen.

I'm just going to say it, the revelation with the comparisons isn't that the PS4 version is a bit better than the XBO version, it's just how damned good the current gen versions look next to the grunt editions. Hats off to Kojima.

Its very much a cross-gen game. The last-gen close up shots do look as if someone smeared piss all over the screen and it will be 30fps. I think the game just looks mediocre for a Ps4/X1 game. I hope TTP will be built for next-gen and they can dump the last-gen version. Its not out before late 2015 anyway.

Ps4 gpu is actually a bit slower than the Xbox One gpu I think in terms of clock speed. But ps4 gpu has 50% more shaders and more than 100% more bandwidth. This is borne out in what we've seen in almost every cross platform game. Most people who understand gpu tech consider the ps4 to have a 50% more powerful gpu. With the right tricks esram can alleviate the bandwidth advantage. I expect the next Halo game to be 1080p and 60fps for example.

I understand gpu tech just fine, and I don't think it is. It's like people who say the PC Engine was 16bit, back to that sort of discussion. Yes the PS4 is more powerful we know that, but just plucking a number out the air and saying its 50% more powerful, for a console is complete nonsense. IMO

Its easy enough to come to that conclusion, after all the figures are there for all too see...only google and sufficient understanding is required.

even with fiddly esram utilization, a large gap will always exist.

Basically if people are happy with blur-o-vision scaling, then the xbone is perfectly fine, but only one machine seems to be seriously made for 1080p.

People like numbers. It helps them understand things easier so you'll continue to hear '50% better' used quite a bit I should think.

The ps4 gpu does seem to be rather good. Kojima says they had room to spare with fox engine at 1080p/60 yet could only do 720p on xbox one. I'm happy with an estimate of 50% better I think. I wonder if we'll ever see a pc version. Be interesting to see what spec pc is needed to get the same res and framer

The biggest factor for me is that its not even 900p, the usual downstep from 1080p, but rather 720p.

A huge difference...makes 50% sound like a reserved number when you consider the difference properly, as in 2.25 times more pixels.

I can see the flawed logic .. Half the res so the One must have half the power ... That's a very simplistic and quite frankly wrong.

Simple fact is that it is up to the dev how they want their game to perform. If the One runs at 60fps for a game at 720p that doesn't mean that it can't do say 45 - 50 fps at 1080p which for most games currently out or near out it probably can. Once you start looking at it like that the 50% more power kinda looks wrong.

Same thing was said before the PS3 came out and it didn't end up like that. The PS4 will be and is more powerful, only nob jockey's really care about the actually numbers, let the games do the talking.

Can we get some mathematicians in here to settle this once and for all, MGS is 720p 30fps on xbox and 1080 60fps on ps4 can someone work out how big a scale up that is, we will need to include developer bias into the formula to make it 100% accurate.

I only commented because of your blind refusal to accept a 50% ballpark figure, when that is the reality as evidenced by almost every game thats come out up until now, if numbers are not your thing.
