We've pretty much reached the point where we should probably just take it as a given that PS4 versions will be higher res unless a major discrepancy comes out. That so many current gen ports have the difference suggests most titles will.

Here is a question, Xbox one owners who are going to be suffering a 180pixel loss of vertical resolution , would you prefer that developers rendered black borders around the endue of you screen, resolution in a couple of CM loss of screen size, but maintaining native pixel mapping?

I can hear my mother saying "but widescreen means they cut the top and bottom off" until I explained that pan&scan is cutting off the sides from widescreen.

Black borders! Borders right, left, up and...down!

That'll be the next marketing technique, somebody will make a retro styled game and make it in 4:3, say the game is shot through a simulated cinema camera, but they are cutting off the left and right in order to make it look right.

I don't think having threads like this here serves any real purpose other than to enflame the discussion further. You may as well rename BordersDown to GaffersUp and be done with it...

I've separated a bunch of these posts away from game threads so people can discuss it here instead of it clogging up a thread about the game itself.

First post makes no sense at all though.

Because it's taken straight out of context from the MGS: Ground Zeroes thread.

Even mod posts were a little inflammatory, that's why my post now makes no sense as the previous post has now been deleted.

I think we have to accept that discussions surrounding resolution and framerate are going to be the main discussion points when they are actually the main points of differentiation between different versions of a game. If people consider them to be a non-issue, then good for them. For others, they dictate purchasing decisions.

These discussions will continue for the foreseeable future as more games are affected. It's all very well saying 'but we didn't talk about this back in the 16-bit days', but that's not strictly true - people did talk about technical differences, but not resolution or framerate because those were largely the same across the board. Instead, people talked about colours, sprite sizes, sprite scaling techniques, layers of backgrounds, scrolling etc. Discussion about the technical side of gaming is nothing new, and to implore people to turn a blind eye to technical issues (resolution, framerates, AA techniques etc.) is to implore willful ignorance.

It took me ages to understand this thread! Technical details are an important part of gaming for me and have been since pre-8 bit. Is the idea that every time a game is better on PS4 we post in here, rather than first play?

agreed with above posts, its to be expected.

It was the same when WiiU started faltering and people didnt want it to be discussed...rough with the smooth and all that.
