That's entirely subjective if all you do is read certain parts of the internet and don't actually experience the titles yourself. I've played Forza 5 since launch and not even seen the microtransaction page within it once.

I'm really enjoying my Xbox One so no thanks. I'm a gamer so I'm looking forward to playing more games not consistently look for reasons to play less.

Forza 5 is a poor sequel regardless of the micro transactions. They have ruined the car handling.

The main difference with past console launches, certainly up to and including the PS2 era is that you could only buy those games on those consoles.

PS4 is largely cross gen, ports or sequels. Xbox less so but hardly inspiring.

When I get one it will be a PS4 purely to the amount of stuff I have on playstation network, but if I had nothing I would probably get a XBone because of killer instinct and dead rising 3

I've played Forza 5 for hours upon hours and there is no way the handling modelling is bad, you can configure it to your own needs, I still think it's the best so called next gen game yet.

That's cool. So is being a gamer and seeing nothing worth playing on the console. In 2015 maybe...

The sheer amount of understeer shocked me. I've no idea what they did but a couple of us found it painful.

When i first got a SNES, N64, PS1, PS2 and PS3 they all had very little games to start with. The only exception to the rule as far as i can remember was the Dreamcast as i had loads to play on it right from the off. So lack of decent games to start with is nothing new. Back then though there was always the imports, but as most stuff is worldwide these days even Japan and the US have just as little to play as the UK/EU.

I will say however that it feels a lot more barren this time around, no doubt in part due to the lack of any middle ground games (either Indie or AAA at the mo)

Id like to see the bigger studios make PSN/Live games as Ubi have done with Child of Light. A brand new 2D Castlevania, Megaman or Contra would be great to fill in the gaps.

I think it just depends on how important graphics and "free world" style stuff is. My personal preference is not really met by newer consoles but I am sure that eventually there will be plenty to enjoy. Most of my fave stuff on the ps3 have been HD remixes....

Largely unused PS4 where I'm only about to get my 5th game for the system simply becuase it's a present. Probably so unplayed becuase there's been no killer app release yet and I've so many games to play elsewhere (backlog on 360, PS3, Wii U, PC and handhelds).

That said I wouldn't compare SNES and N64 launches to these machines. I remember having (or could buy) SMW, F-Zero, Super Tennis, Zelda LTTP, Castlevania, SMK and SF2 all before the year end in PAL land. And the N64 got the the likes of Waverace, ISS64, MK64 all within months of the launch (along with a price cut) on top of the two legendary launch games. Even DC and PS1 felt like they had a flow of steady unique games. I do agree though that the PS2 launch was a very painful and barren time for games. I did sell my launch PS2 which was one of the few times I've done this.

That for me is what the next-gen is lacking so far, and will struggle to get in this age of multi-platform gamers.

Would I sell? Potentially, if you can get back a nice amount of money for the machine and then pick up a newer/cheaper machine once the games library grows and that suits you.

For me won't jack it in but have no desire for the Xbox One and buying much less so far on PS4 and Wii U (1st party) so already affected buying patterns for me in comparison to previous generations.

I think it's important to remember that the first year dry rule for Xbox One and PS4 doesn't end for another 5 months, their lack of major releases is a typical symptom and the current gen machines have also been just as dry over the same period. It's why there's been so many cross gen releases, because they all have been getting the same games. This is a discussion best having in about 2 weeks time when we know what's actually due for both in the remainder of their first year.

The only real difference other than backlogue has been that PS4 gets far less niche and indie games than current gen and XBO even less than that. But it mostly hangs on what's revealed at E3.

Although I do look at my PS4 at times and consider selling it due to the lack of releases, I know from clear experience it would be pointless as I'll just buy another down the line when something I want to play comes out. This however is the first gen of gaming where I've adopted the approach to gaming I currently have, which is to buy a game/complete it/sell straight away after that. I don't under any circumstances want game 'collections' any more. To that end I currently own zero physical games for the PS4, it's quite a refreshing approach in my house!

All this talk makes me interested in reading a retrospective about console "launch window" titles that aren't launch titles.

I'd love to read an article that compared Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Dreamcast etc. going back as far as the Saturn/Playstation, if only to cement the belief that it's always like this.

It's a smart approach, but also really makes me wonder how disposable gaming has become today. Most games are titles that you finish once and never bother to play again. I still go back to games like Super Mario World etc. It's kinda sad really.
