It's worth bearing in mind that in these days of worldwide near-simultaneous console releases (or in the case of the PS4, 3 months before the Japanese release), the development period for western launch titles has been massively shortened.

For example, it's easy to look at the western Dreamcast launch with the likes of Soul Calibur and nearly 20 launch titles and see that as a superior situation, but this was 10 months after to Japanese launch, where the only notable title was Virtua Fighter 3tb and that remained the situation for a while.

Now I've completed MGS, played 30 hours + of online BF4 and have been hanging on for new game announcements, I'm left wanting. Every generation has had a lull after launch but this could prove to be unlike any other time in history, games take a long time to be made now and all the games that were going to be released at the end of the year are now pushing into next year. E3 could show some unexpected releases, but listening to Giantbomb, they believe no big hitters will be released this year, possibly none till Q3 - Q4 2015.

I'm seriously considering jacking my PS4 in and picking up a 360 so I can play some actual games I've not played before. It really feels like there's nothing of real worth being released for the next 1 - 2 years! The Dreamcast was released and culled during that time frame!

Anyone else thinking of going back to the previous generation? Project Gotham Racing 4, F1 2013 Complete Edition, Marble Blast Ultra and several hundred games are calling me...
Early adoption. You'll be back in a year.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

Exactly .. I don't remember any native release of a JAP console being that good with launch titles, let alone 'year one' and that was the way with pretty much every major console launch back in the day. I think people's memory of that time is either wrong or they were not part of the import culture at the time.

Bottom line is, whilst there are no true 'next gen' games currently, there are still plenty to play on all three consoles at this point in time, and thats no bad thing.

20 years old game has less content and tracks than a current one. Shocking!
Not really launch games like Crash and Burn and F-Zero had way more tracks that Ridge racer . Just that some people forget how bad the PS launch line was when it hit Japan

Forza 5 ("Next gen") has 16 tracks and 200 cars while Forza 4 (last gen) has 26 tracks and 500 cars. That's a better comparison.
No a fair comparison would be what Turn 10 did on the 360 . Forza 2 wasn't even a launch title yet had less content and looked pretty poor really . The jump Turned 10 managed with their 2nd and 3rd gen titles with 3 and 4 was huge . I'll expect Turn 10 to much the same with Forza 6 and 7 on the XBox 1 . For a launch Forza 5 is really impressive and its also features some of the best AI (if not the best) I've ever seen in racing game .

Dreamcast had one of the worst launch line ups for any console went it hit Japan , Well the Mega CD was the worst but the DC is a close 2nd imo

I did not feel this bored with my PlayStation, Dreamcast, Xbox 360, it's not an exclusive issue with all new consoles & due to the long development times, we've not had a situation like this before.

Sold my PS4 yesterday & got a lovely Xbox 360. In another year, maybe they'll be something truly decent to play on Wii U, Xbox One or PS4.

You need to play some F1 2013. If you think Forza 5 has good AI, your mind will be blown with Codemasters effort.

I've always thought the AI in GT & Forza to be truly awful.

Curious that you got an Xbox 360. I much prefer the PlayStation 3 myself right now. Though, I guess you had that before.

Yeah, I owned a 360 since launch, owned a PS3 for the past 2 years so felt like a return to the 360.

PS3 is cool but the 360 controller, some 360 exclusives I missed & my 50+ XBLA collection pushed me to Microsoft. I also missed some Co-Op gaming like Halo & Gear of War 3 that I never really had on the PS3.

This current generation of consoles has suffered an awful lack of quality so far but I think it would be foolish to jump ship so early even though I would sympathise with the notion. In most cases 'next gen' has usually meant just that, each new wave of consoles has clearly surpassed their predecessors, this time round I see it as more of an evolution than revolution partly because the last generation consoles were really very, very good.

I find something about that incredibly depressing.

Wools, some people are for and some are against getting a next gen console at launch. I think your mistake was going full hog at next gen and not keeping a last gen console. I'd say keep your PS4 and get yourself a cheap 360.

I'd play Dark Souls 2 and discard the rest (unless Skyrim is on the PC).

Well its all and what Turn 10 do . Though I expect Forza 6 to bring in the weather and night time racing from Forza H 2 which should spice the game series up a little .
