Question is though, where are Starfox 64, F Zero X and Waverace 64 after all this?
I strongly recommend skipping Starfox. It was great at the time, but time has not been kind.

Starfox is still great! Although 3DS version is probably the way to go.

Just as fun now as it was at release, although price-wise I think the Wii/WiiU one would be the best on your wallet.

Pretty much, I still loved playing through it last year on both systems.

You're talking about the SNES original, right? You must be, because you'd be talking absolute rubbish if you're talking about Starfox 64/Lylat Wars.

Starfox 64 was great back in 1997 and it remains great nearly 20 years later. It's still the best game in the franchise by light years, ffs!

Starfox 64 is one of the best games on the system....

I'd actually go a step further and say that it's one of the best things Nintendo have ever done.

Huh ? It's as good now as it ever was . It's hands down the best in the series and also one of the best 3D shooters ever made on any system in the Arcade or Home

I can see some people are big fans of it, but when I tried to play it recently, I just felt it had aged very poorly. The lack of a level select really hurts it. Plus, at the time it was a visual marvel, but now it looks quite hideous in places.

I dunno, I just don't think it has the wow it once had.

Remove your RF lead and get your n64 rgb modded ;-)

How the hell does the lack of a level select hurt it?

More of a daft oversight. It certainly should be included.

That was the whole idea! You progress in a direction based on your choices when playing.
It's like a metaphor for life.

That can't cover the N64 trademark fussy display poor textures washed out colours and low res games sadly . Gameplay still is ace and the game looks and sound more than good enough

That's to be expected . 3d games age even for the big time 'wow' games

Perhaps, but it varies tremendously depending on the game.

For instance, I have Mario 64 for the WiiU VC. It's just a basic emulation, not an HD version or anything, but that still looks great, because the visuals feel really "solid". I don't think it'll ever age to the point where it is ugly. Conversely, something contemporary like Turok looks hideous today, even though people thought it visually impressive back then.

I imported Starfox 64 back in the day; having it arrive (in the same box as a USA copy of Goldeneye) is one of my biggest gaming childhood memories. I freaking loved that game. Just now, I feel it lacks some of the panache it once had, and it serves as a reminder that Starfox is probably Nintendo's most poorly handled franchise.
