It's a flying game. Planes are controlled with sticks. Controllers have sticks.
Tilting the screen to play a game is awful; I've played several on the iPad and each successive one made me less and less inclined to try and play another.
I can see Nintendo forcing Gamepad-only controls with the Wii U release and that, for me, would be horrendous. By all means make it an option for those who want to experience that but PLEASE GOD don't make it mandatory for playing the game.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 07-01-2015, 18:04.

I think 2015's exclusives have already been covered in this thread but for the sake of fair comment here's the key ones lined up so far as per the PS4 and XBO threads:
* As already discussed, I expect Xenoblade to be the showcase though I don't expect strong sales for it. I'm most looking forward to Starfox with ease and still expect Zelda to miss this year. The rest is solid looking filler but nothing wow, Devil's Third looks the weakest and I expect Splatoon to be interesting but flop.
-Splatoon
-Mario Party 10
-Devil's Third
-Mario Maker
-Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
-Xenoblade Chronicles X
-Yoshi's Woolly World
-Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
-Starfox 3
-The Legend of Zelda WiiU

It has to focus on one or the other, as they're pretty fundamentally different control methods.

Motion control has long lost its novelty, and its far more likely to alienate the Star Fox fanbase if they mess around with the control scheme again; Command did exactly that to disastrous results. With their talk about a "familiar storyline" it sounds like they're putting way more thought into the control scheme than the actual content of the game. I hope Nintendo realises that you're more likely to get innovation from a new game with a traditional controller than a traditional game with a new controller. I really don't want Starfox 64: Tilt Edition.

There is simply nothing to suggest that this would be the case in any circumstance.

You're right, inasmuch as they could make pretty much two games (with two sets of equally balanced enemies and levels). Anything less? It's impossible.
You may as well ask, for example, to make a dancemat game which is balanced for being played on a d-pad and dancemat, where the two are equally difficult/easy. It's impossible; they're fundamentally different controllers.

I hate to play devil's advocate but if you guys all want a game like Starfox 64 and a proper contoller why don't you just buy Star Fox 64 and an N64? Saying Nintendo should just make the same games they were in 1998 with the pretty much the same controllers is a bit redundant surely? Nobody is taking those original games away?
As for the Gamepad controls, you only have to look at sales figures for Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 to see that people like us don't buy core stuff in big enough numbers. The million-sellers on Wii U are all super-simple games like NSMBU, Mario Kart 8, NSLU, Super Smash Bros., and Wii Party. If Nintendo want Star Fox to sell it has to be gimmicky and simple to appeal to their modern audience, otherwise it will only be bought by us and that's like 10% of the install base. To be honest, I think if it wasn't for Nintendo trying to come up with uses for the Gamepad at this point then I doubt we'd be even seeing a new Star Fox.

A dancemat game clearly needs a dancemat. There is no scope for it to have any other control method.
This is different. There are people out there who may well feel comfortable with using the Gamepad to play a game like Starfox. Fine, make it one control option beside many (Pro Controller, Wii Remote, etc.) for them to do so if they would like. Just don't force it on people who want a familiar Starfox experience that they know and love.

So no, Nintendo don't have to make Starfox super-gimmicky at all to sell it - sales pretty much being a moot point at this stage of the game given that not even the most die-hard Nintendo fan could dare to claim that the Wii U is/was anything but a commercial flop, irrespective of the (admittedly impressive) software sales figures.
