Credit to the 360 as it hits 10 year at the end of the year. Still going strong too.

Yes, was an amazing consoles the 360 - once they sorted out the problems.

This thread has been a great reminder of things, and made me feel very old. I got my first ZX Spectrum 33 years ago, gulp.

The trouble is most people will always look back more favourably to the era they grew up in , be that for gaming, music and films in some cases even sports ... You know there's been some amazing films and games made in just the last few years imo . But when one looks back you forget the crap and only remember the good .

I happen to think the 80's was the best for films, Television (more so for kids TV) music and Arcade gaming - but that was just the era I gew up in . There's some game genere's that have really suffered like traditional shooters and Gun games - in those cases the 80's and 90's really were king

Agreed. People will swear they that can look back objectively but they struggle to see past the Rose tints.

The way my 17 year old work colleague spoke about playing Spyro: Year of the Dragon with his brother one Christmas you could tell it was not just the game he was reflecting on, also the memories attached to it.

Quality remains quality regardless of age.

It does, but was our gaming experience better than his was? that is subjective.

I'd say yes, not because the games were better per se in our early era, but that there was more inventiveness, more imagination, more genres, more willingness to try something new, and far less yearly update cycles

Still remember picking my PS2 up in town at launch. I carried it to the car like it was a block of gold.

And there's been plenty of quality games and films made in just the last 10 years . I'm sure if one was to ask our kids or nephews and nieces they'll say the last decade been the best for gaming, films and TV and so on

but that there was more inventiveness, more imagination, more genres, more willingness to try something new, and far less yearly update cycles
That would have to be the late 70's and 80's then . When developers could make a game based around almost anything and gaming was still new and fresh . 90's was in fact just more of the same not much new about Platformers, shooters driving games but the time of the Snes and Mega Drive . And lets be fair here, the Mega Drive and Snes more or less established yearly updates with EA/SEGA Ect making endless sequesl to their Sports games and SEGA and Nintendo making quick sequels to the likes of Sonic and Donkey Kong Country .

Its funny to see people moan about nothing new . When the Mega Drive and Snes played host to a almost endless list of Platform games /Film based Platform games, shooters and Sports games and RPG's

Dr. Mario turns 25 years old next week. The original NES game was released on July 27th 1990.

Think there's a strong chance of me purchasing Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure on the 3DS - much to the LOLs of wakka, I'm sure! :P

How come no one has mentioned the Amiga turning 30 this week?
It’s 30 years since Commodore launched its powerful Amiga 1000 computer, ushering in the era of Worms, Lemmings and myriad other Britsoft classics
