It's a series where you spend most of your time grinding and the game even presents it in such a way to make it feel even more so.

The racing itself is spot on, I think I prefer the way Forza controls to just about any of its rival franchises. Certainly I'd like them to reapproach the tracks, there's some nice choices in there but they need rebuilding from the ground up to look current and befitting of a platform exclusive AAA premier title. Dynamic lighting would be nice too as well as day night cycles as you list for race events which run long term. The entire front end needs to reworked to make access to options, cars and events a light and efficient thing like it is in the Horizon series.

You could definitely apply the same niggles to the GT series, something about sims seems to mean they feel the need to be soulless and somewhat pretentious but Forza felt like a series aggressively snapping at GT's heels and overtaking until the XBO arrived and then it stumbled and feels like it's still recovering. There'd undoubtedly be more, stuff like reworking how the genre represents motion and speed (a sim should make 100mph Volvo still feel fast not slow) I think it's more frustration because by the time F6 arrived, based on the progression from 1-4, I'd expected us to be onto something really special.
I can actually see the point regarding the progress from 1-4 and the relative slowdown since. They have pretty much nailed the car control now but need to improve the rest, track feel and detail especially.

For me a few things like more violent shakes when crashing and perhaps a Shift style blur will elevate Forza. Crashing still feels too simple and easy to recover from visually. There is no impact. It needs to become a little more visceral but still retain the simulation roots.

Definitely. I can understand the enthusiast approach with sim games like Forza, GT, Project etc of recreating the car models etc in tiny detail but it feels like misplaced effort when the experience remains so far from that of driving a car in real life despite the obvious improvements beyond car models that could be made. Less time spent rendering bolt heads for the pointless Forzavista mode and more spent on heavier collision physics etc. Forza still has a very real window to sail past the GT series as a racing experience if they can regain momentum.

GT is no better that Forza. Both offer similar tuned handling but don't actually nail the thrill of racing. GT can't even get the engine sound right. It's a travesty of a decline.

Played the demo, up to the end of the first proper race (I went no further as I'll get VIP bonuses in the full game).

On the proper race, I'd passed the other cars by the end of lap 1. I kept checking behind me and there were no other cars in sight, even at the start of the third lap. I checked about half way round the third lap and there was a car right on my tail. Not sure if it was elastic banding, but I hadn't done anything stupid to allow someone to catch up.

Seriously, if any of you are disappointed by the demo of Forza 6, give Project Cars a try. It's on a whole other level to Forza 6 but if you're interested in a game with better AI, driving conditions and car physics, then Project Cars might be the game for you.

Isn't this getting a little bit like Game FAQ's ? Comparing demo's to fully finished retail games , going off youtube video reviews ? . I find both Forza '6 demo' and Project Cars to be great games , but the best driving game I've played of late is Dirt Rally and even that's not finished yet .

i am sure i will end up buying and playing Forza 6 at some point but from what i have seen and played it's pretty clear Forza 6 wont do much different than Forza 5. there will be more free cars and hopefully a more motivating career mode. this surely will be enough for most of the fans i guess. but if you come from a racing sim like Project Cars the list of missing features in Forza 6 is realy offputting. adding to that is a comparatively simple physics and handling model and weaker sound.

Both have their plus and minus points and that's good as it makes both worth getting imo . I really don't get your issue of the sound or GFX of Forza 6 (not to say they aren't vaild, just don't agree) . The sound from the XBox is one of its better points and the Sound is awesome in Forza imo. Don't get people moaning about the music and game being quite (noone heard of a audio option screen ?) and having 24 cars on track at 60 fps and 1080p (with not a hint of slowdown) is huge jump from Forza 4 for starters, never mind the other gfx step ups

I've gone back to play Forza 4 and the gulf in graphics is quite clear and very easy to see , looking over this demo is no doubt E3 Code too

I have no idea, I've never read the Game FAQ's boards.

From my experience, some fundamental aspects of a game won't change in any way way from demo to release. The complaints levelled at the demo; physics being some way behind other racers, poor AI, a narrow track selection and weather being static, feel like elements that won't improve enough by the time it's released in 11 days. Happy to be proven wrong of course.

Is it fair to assume the game will only be the content shown in the demo? Of course not. Is it fair to judge the quality of a demo when it does not meet your expectations? Absolutely. Like listening to a Podcast of a movie review show and planning your next trip to the cinema on their opinions, it's perfectly valid to watch a HD Video of a game you're interested in whilst listening to an expert you trust, and basing your opinion on those elements.

It's not really like Game FAQ's at all is it?

The game is designed to get you to pay for cars through tokens because the payouts are so tiny. It was definitely designed to get people to cough up more cash, especially before any patches.

The Lotus E21 alone would take around 700 races to buy with race payouts, but you can always plump up ~?30 odd in tokens of course

Hopefully Forza 6 will not be burdened with that BS.
This is why I wont be getting this day one. It was horrible the amount of racing you had to do to clear forza 5 unless you purchased the car packs. The car packs should be for fun, they got it right with horizon though!

The AI will ,since it will be going off people driving habits.

Watching a film to 'playing' a video game is totally different. A game can look pretty amazing in well produced video advertisement, Playing the game for yourself can be vastly different when the gameplay turns out to be total rubbish : case in point Alien Marines

                          Not really.

Watching a Film trailer gives me a pretty good inkling as to what a film will be like. Atmosphere, tone and story can be conveyed in the 2 minutes its got to impress me enough to book tickets.

Watching a bloke who knows everything their is to know about racing games play a demo of a game that's going to be released in less than a fortnight, will let me gleam more than enough of whether I want to play it or not.

Everyone has different views and opinions and demo code can be based on code that months old as its more stable from the dev kit , before the fully finished and optimised code.

                              ****, I just spent ?80 on a game.

Anyone that believes drivatar is an actual thing needs therapy. It's a load of rubbish. Forza AI has certainly been suspect in the motor sport games.
