      Resident Evil 1 = Tomb Raider 1

      Resident Evil 2 = Tomb Raider 2

So Res 2 is more action orientated but the level design and locations arn't as good but still very good in general.

I love them both equally, so a proper REmake style remake is all I want here, no trickery or fudging with the game- just Resi 2 in the style of REmake. Listen to me Capcom!!!

Although both both Alien and Aliens are great. I preferred some of the characters in Aliens, particularly Bill Paxton's character"Game Over Man" haha Some great lines in the film. So perhaps I will prefer Resi 2 due to the pacing. Saying that, Resi remake on the GC has been my favourite game in the series so far, **** me right up in places. Resi 2 has a lot to live up to.

I always thought RE2 was everything a sequal needed to be. Didn't mind the shift to 'Action' at all as it only made the weapons/upgrades more important to the gameplay and exploration.

It's a fantastic sequel, IMO. It has some excellent moments and I remember the pacing being really good. Loved Nemesis too actually.

Yeah, they should roll this into a Resident Evil 3 Remake as well. RE3 isn't as good as the first two but it always seems to get unfairly brushed aside in fan discussions

Yeeeeah....I think RE3 probably is worth a revisit...I just can't seem to put my finger on why I didn't quite enjoy it as much as 1 or 2. Probably the pacing. And I thought the Nemesis itself was a weak, annoying foe. Weak as in...meh. Unscary. Just an annoying way to create dull setpieces that sapped one's munitions and herbs. But in other ways, it was cool, like the more complex ammo system n' stuff. Is the term 'a curate's egg'? High quality, no doubt, though.

So I'm currently replaying this. Just wanted to see if I could see the Alien/Aliens comparison (not yet) but now I'm hooked again and going for a full play through. Really is an excellent game. Finished the

                    police station

and really just remembering how much there is in this game. Mirrors the first in many ways but builds on it really nicely. The

arms bursting through the boarded-up windows

scared the bejaysus out of me. And the music is excellent. Really good game. Would love to see it get the treatment the GC RE1 remake got.

How can you not see the Alien/Aliens comparison?

Because Alien was an isolated tense horror movie with a single enemy. Aliens completely switched genre and became a soldier-filled action movie against swarms of enemies. Different genre, different feel, different pace. RE2 is the same genre as the first and follows the same formula as the first, hits very similar beats and doesn't really switch anything. It builds on the first really well but doesn't mess with it.

Because the first Resi is much more intense and slow paced, much like Alien.

Resident Evil 2 is fast, bigger, bolder and just more of everything. It's the action sequel.

Hmm...that's pretty vague. It's bigger as in more of very similar stuff. It's only faster if you just happen to play it faster because the layout and situations lend themselves to the same system of play. Aliens was not just more Alien. Maybe the problem with the comparison is not disagreeing on what RE2 is, but disagreeing on what Aliens did with Alien.

                            Just did the
bit. That was pretty excellent. Worried I may not have enough ammo. I have a decent amount of shotgun ammo left but wasted a lot of handgun ammo clearing out some corridors. Poor strategy on my part as I have a good stash of healing items and could risk taking damage.

That's why I like my Romero comparison better (hehe). Resi 1 was kind of oppressive, murky, creepy and low key (ish)...a wee bit like the original NOTLD. Resi 2 upped the gunplay, body count and colour. And the main protagonist sported a lovely blue uniform...a wee bit like the original DOTD. Resi 3 was more like...Land Of The Dead or Survival Of The Dead or summat. Still pretty decent but...maybe lacking that inspired spark that might've truly set it off.

I was never really a fan of the Alien flicks, sadly, and bar Prometheus I've seen 'em all. I got 'em all on Blu though. Maybe one day I'll appreciate them.
