One of Spains biggest retailers has added PS5 to its system with the disc model at 499.99 Euro and the digital model at 399.99 Euro. Presumably, at what the Xbox systems came in at that means £499.99 and £349.99

I wonder what effect the digital only consoles will have as a whole on the translation over to digital sales?
I mean, where the Series S is concerned the price point is going to sway a lot of people but will essentially lock them out of ever buying discs and I feel once you go digital only you're most likely to remain that way...
It's going to be a similar story for PS5 and it's going to depend on how big that gap is between the digital and disc version of the console.

It'll probably be the biggest boost to the transition to digital only we've seen yet over a short term. Sony should definitely take the hit to bring the digi model in low because they'll make the money back quickly by rinsing users. With no Game Pass equivalent it means that Sony should absorb the cost quickly without relying on long term microtransactions. I'm 100% in on the disc version still though, that £100 extra will be recouped within around 3 games time, no brainer for cost saving.

I'd say games I've bought direct from the store at local pricing would be less than 1%.
I'll be going digital only on PS5 simply because I am used to it now and I plan on playing all 3rd party stuff in Xbox anyway. The PS5 would just be for exclusives...
I think both consoles versions being low priced during the COVID pandemic have the chance to completely flip the digital market. I've no idea what the ratio is now for discs v digital but it's no hard to see it could bring a tipping point.

I've said it before, buying digital has saved me money. It isn't more expensive if you take advantage of the global market and discounted credit.
Plus, I still have all the games I've bought. Argue away not actually owning them but I am sure my collection will outlive me so it doesn't concern me one bit
