I do really want to try VR properly for myself, I don't own a PC, and this appeals a lot more than the now-dated Oculus Quest 2 which is not THAT much less (£130 less, so, not nothing, but still).

Sticker Shock! I wasn't expecting that pricing. A peripheral that's more expensive than the host system isn't really going to build a userbase quickly.
Having to bundle headphones due to the popularity of Bluetooth headsets these days can't have been something Sony wants to do from a cost perspective but is necessary.
Of the eleven new games announced today I'd only really be interested in Pistol Whip.
Not sure if I'll place an order now.

Its still massively cheaper than the competition the Meta quest pro is £1499.99 and the Valve Index is £919.00, you need to add about 2 grands worth of pc as well if where talking all in.
If you want a high end feature rich headset its still the cheapest way into the high end VR market, this is a massive step up from the first gen vr in clarity tracking and control. Yeah its not cheap but put against the competition your looking at half the price of the others and nearly a third of the price of a meta quest pro.
Im, not gonna be an early investor but will probably pick one up at some point after i save up a bit.

Just a glance at the games line up seems to pretty much cement that pretty much no-one is going to utilise it either. This is all existing PSVR1 era content, it's not a driver of game development so seems destined to largely try to peddle rereleases. I know everyone loves the idea of the better tracking etc but they might as well have just released a spruced up version of PSVR1 and not needed to split the software base etc. This very much risks putting a nail in console VR's coffin, there's pretty much zero reason to shell out for it in the face of alternatives

Then there is original PSVR which can be easily bought for under £200 new or under £100 used and has a decent library, can run on any PS4 or PS5 model too.
Seems like Sony are just targeting the VR/Tech enthusiasts rather than the average consumer, which won't be great for sales, and if sales don't pick up there won't be much incentive for developers/publishers to make and release titles for it...
Edit - And So far the launch line up isn't showing anything too groundbreaking or system-seller level quality that will draw in the enthusiasts, many of which would probably already own a high end VR anyway. Lack of backwards compatibility is rubbish tooLast edited by Ouenben; 02-11-2022, 14:18.

Yeah. Horizon Call of the Mountain has all the feeling of an Uncharted Golden Abyss style one-and-done tech demo launch game. I think if you buy this, you have to be comfortable with the idea that you are buying something that will basically access a very very similar library to the Quest, and that there will be little that takes advantage of the PS5 hardware.
There's a part of me that wonders if you'd be better served by a Quest 2 with Quest Pro controllers. That would come to £700.
