I noticed it straight away playing Danmaku Unlimited 3.

Do you have a Bluetooth or 2.4GHz one? I hear it's better on the latter. Still supposedly worse than a pro controller though.

Can you play Mario 64 in the 35th Anniversary Collection with the controller?

I'm using a Bluetooth one. Playing Arcade Archives games, SF 30th Anniversary (often online), Capcom Arcade Stadium, Sonic Mania and SEGA AGES games have all felt fine with it.

That said, the input lag on it becomes apparent only if I use the Switch's patched-in in-built bluetooth audio for my earbuds. Then it becomes unusable.

FYI, the pro-rata discount for converting an existing Switch Online sub to the Expansion Pack is 4p off for every day that you have remaining on your sub.

Dataminers have pieced together that 38 more N64 games are inbound with Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros, Wave Race and Mario Party 1, 2 and 3 all set.

The systems are numerically referenced too with '4' currently being skipped which almost certainly relates to the long speculated Game Boy category.

Maybe... But I wouldn't put too much stock in that. I wouldn't be surprised if PC Engine was 12, Colecovision was 14 and Sega Saturn was 25. They probably just assigned a number to any system they could feasibly do.

Same here. My M30 Bluetooth is a lot more responsive with SF Anniversary on my Switch than the same SF games on my PC with RetroArch. I get quite a few missed inputs on PC unless I use the USB cable. There’s probably something going on behind the scenes in Anniversary(longer input windows?) but it’s a lot better.

The 2.4GHz M30 has some of the lowest input latency on offer with over a 90% same-frame input probability. I’m using a pair with my MiSTer, while also thinking about grabbing another pair just in case the company goes bust or decides to stop making them (which always happens with anything that’s actually good).

If you bought the M30 some time ago I might suggest looking into a firmware update, may improve things. danstan21

Your posts about the 2.4GHz M30 are convincing me to get one as well(especially with the fear of it going out of production), but I might hunt for a RetroBit Saturn one instead.

If you ever find that anything is seemingly out of stock via the usual channels I'd recommend checking their AliExpress page. I didn't think I'd be able to get an SN30 with the original SNES controller receiver but managed to order directly from China and it was pretty inexpensive too.

I should clarify - the reason I said 'worse than a Pro controller' was that all else being equal, anything that interfaces with the Switch via USB ports on the dock will have added latency compared to Bluetooth connection. As that's a Switch-specific problem, I'm sure it's an excellent controller in the use case you're describing. (I certainly don't have any complaints with the ergonomics or build quality.)

I started looking into this stuff when I first got my 8BitDo and found the performance disappointing given its universal praise in online reviews. In doing so I came across a YouTuber named 'Shmup Junkie' who has tested input lag on various Switch controller set-ups. You can see the results in this spreadsheet, and if you're interested, he talks in more detail about his testing set-up etc in this video (a heads-up that it's quite 'classic YouTuber' if you find that stuff grating).

It's worth stating that the difference between the best and worst set-ups in the above table is 2 frames of lag, and the degree to which any player will notice 3 vs 5 frames of lag - let alone care - varies massively. I suspect I am more sensitive to it than average.

...with all the above said, I admittedly did complete forget about this - I haven't ever updated the firmware since receiving the controller. I'll see if that helps!

I have a RetroBit Saturn pad that I'll likely never return to. It's far too lightweight, all of the buttons rattle about too much, and the plastic just feels overly cheap. I know that's how the Saturn v2 pad was originally, but It's not a premium feel at all.

My d-pad went a bit grindy after around six weeks as well.

Yep, my SLS pads are like baby rattles.

My M30 dpad is grinding a bit so I might do what someone on youtube did and lube it up with silicone grease.

Of course, that dreaded dock in action once again.

Looking at that chart I'd probably stick with the Joycon. I presume he means frame latency and not the ms that he has marked there? No one's spotting the difference between 3ms and 5ms of latency considering an input with a 3ms delay gives roughly an 82% same-frame probability, vs. 70% with 5ms. Three to five frames is definitely noticeable.
