Is this the least-delayed GT release so far?

I can’t remember when, but I feel like at some point the GT games started taking aaaages to come out. This one didn’t even need a Prologue fluffer. Was it only GT4 that was heavily delayed?

I’m trying to jokingly see if the promise of those sweet sweet microteansactions helped motivate Polyphony to “change gears”. Sorry.

It was delayed by 9 months. Originally it was supposed to be out by end of Q2 2021. That said, there was never a full GT game on PS4, last one was GT6 released in 2013 on PS3, so they've had 9 years to work on it and tune the microtransactions.

        It's GT7 Prologue, let's face it.

To be honest I always thought Sport was GT7 Prologue. 6 was dramatically delayed, to the point where it launched on PS3 the same month that PS4 released. Since PS4 wasn't even back compat with PS3, that was a complete disaster from a timing perspective.

Following that I assumed that Polyphony were ordered to make a cut down sequel to ensure they would achieve a release date in the middle of the PS4's life, and that's why it wasn't a numbered entry.

Just conjecture on my part but it's what made sense to me.

By the looks of the two I'd be very inclined to feel that's exactly what happened

It's blindingly obvious the game economy is set to push people to microtransactions with low payouts, high car prices, no car resale, limit on credit bank (which doesn't exist if you pay for credits) and FOMO limited availability - it's BS which ever way you slice it.

If Polyphony Digital were interested in letting people use any car they wanted, there's be an arcade mode allowing any car on any track. There isn't. I think that says everything we need to know.
Could you ever use most of the cars you wanted? It always cost a fortune to buy them all. And did the arcade mode you're talking about ever exist? I haven't played every game, but my memory of arcade mode is you only ever had a fairly small selection of cars from each class.

The last GT I played was 5, money was tight on that until they added the seasonal events several months in and by that stage I wasn't playing much anymore.

(edit GT5 before seasonal events was was pretty bad! https://www.gtplanet.net/gt7-latest-...fans-20220317/)

Not in any way justifying what's going on here, having this lingering in the background leaves a dirty taste and there clearly are moves to push people into buying credits. I'm glad there's been a backlash and I hope they're forced to rip all this crap out of there. But while I'll never own most of the cars in this game, I never owned most of the cars on any previous GT game either!

PS Plus Premium tiers are now official and pretty much match the leaks. Middle tier probably hits the most boxes, PSNow subs will migrate to the top tier. Not sure anyone with stacked PS+ gets anything but basic so presumably there's an upgrade path coming. Doesn't launch till June though.

That last tier sounds like a bit of a hodgepodge. You can download games, but also there are some you can stream, but can't download. Hmm

sounds like the retro stuff will be an a xcloud type thing where you just launch the game in the cloud and don't download it, this is alongside 400+ downloadable games at launch but not day one first party stuff. A year lag on PS5 exclusive games on the system seems to be how their handling first party stuff, with things like returnal, spiderman and death stranding, hitting at launch, No doubt things like horizon ZD and the new god of war will come to it once they have done their business at retail.

What I'm seeing is them taking note though it looks like quite a substantial offer for pretty much the same price as gamepass, you'd think that the big hitters would be the draw of services like this but its only really Forza that's been consistently a top tier game for Microsoft and my time with game pass has mainly been spent on interesting indie stuff, Deaths door, Sable, the Gunk and Far changing tides are all fantastic experiences, and perfect for this type of model.

Nothing much else of note has come out of Microsoft studios for some time now even Halo was very one note and failed to keep its community active on multiplayer with poor battle passes and dull events and still no co-op for single player. They keep swinging and missing game like crackdown sea of thieves, and state of decay all arrived in poor states and newer exclusives like Shredders could of been this years amped or 1080 snowboarding but feel unpolished and cheap. And although i loved the world and the setting the state Microsoft exclusive Sable came to game pass in was shocking and still is. If microsoft worked on their quality control in their studios i think they could get back on top with gamepass but one driving game and a ton of indie stuff dosen't justify a £120 a year outlay for me.

I’m no longer interested in the GPU model … but the Premium option would grab my attention if they did retro titles properly.

I think the main issue with Halo is they clearly weren't ready with all content and have delayed the end of season 1 to essentially re-launch it. That's seen the player count drop off but I would imagine it'll get a spike when new content drops. It's also important to remember the multiplayer isn't in game pass, it's free.

I think this new offering from Sony is decent at themid-tier but they need to establish specific rules and not just say 400 games etc... Game Pass benefits from you knowing a lot of what is arriving and removes the guess work. It does sound like it's a 1y lag behind retail but it would be good to just call that out as the rule.

The PS2, PS3, PSP stuff will be streamable but the PS4 stuff is downloadable.

Like that probably because Sony don't want to go down the full, native back-cat that MS have. It also means they can add more titles in the future with minimal effort.

                                It says:

A catalog of beloved classic games available in both streaming and download options from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP generations

So a mix of the two. Not great.
