Why do you need so many, though? That averages out at just over one per year since their inception, so I'm not surprised you've had no issues.

I usually have 2-4 controllers on hand for local play, back in the Xbox One days I had two consoles.

Plus I generally upgraded through trade-in any time a new model comes out so went through an original Xbox One, One S, One X etc... trading in the controllers as I go.

Right now I've got a Series S and X, plus my old 2nd controller from the One X which are all as good as new.

MS comes back with a little sauce of its own...

Man I would love to know what the redacted stuff is here as they call out Sony actively preventing content getting onto game pass but then there's several pieces we can't read...

Either way it makes for interesting reading.

Oh no, fuel for the console wars!

MS also pays 'Blocking rights'. Its no coincidence that games leave gamepass and then magically appear on ps+ the next month. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the most notable one.
These things go on because its market competition. Its just par of the course.

MS do have a history of getting in to hot water with the FTC in the past too. And have been slapped many times for antitrust. They are well known for hoovering up companies regardless of how it effects the competition. Sony will be well aware of this.

No-one is saying either party is immune to exclusivity deals but recently is clear Sony have entered into some pretty permanent ones... Like Street Fighter V never coming to Xbox, and Final Fantasy 7 remake hitting PC but still completely absent as well.

They've also done it with Deathloop with a full year exclusivity. I think the last time MS did that was Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Personally I'm not a fan of entire year deals like this, or worse where it's never coming to that platform.

At the end of the day I think this deal is very much going through. It's telling Sony were the only ones providing negative feedback...

Well yeah, Xbox are their main competitor. They got asked and they laid it on thick.
Sony have had far more launch exclusives too, but if you watched that Xbox show recently, almost everything on there was a launch exclusive. Its **** and I don't like it, but its happening.

Personally, games like Cod, assassins Creed and Fifa aren't console sellers anyway. They are regular rotation games that are just always there. Something like Starfield is, because it's a once in a console generation game. If you don't own the console it's on, you'll miss it. Cod... Well you might miss one or two, but there'll be more. Besides, there are other online FPSs, it has competition (despite what Sony says), unlike Starfield.

Company that has made trillions on being a monopoly calls out other companies for trying to keep content or games away from their monopoly.

The hypocrisy of MS crying foul over anything like this is just hilarious.

You’ve lost every single generation MS, just shake everyone’s hand and go work harder at it all.

MS are buying tiny companies every week just because they have some bit of code or idea they don't want out on the market. I do find it funny that people are defending MS like they are some rinkydink company fighting hard against the evil powers of Sony, while at the same time acknowledging the huge amount of money MS have (and not questioning the means in which they keep that money flowing).
MS is built on the shoulders of other companies they bought. Always have been.

Same people defending them like their an underdog are also gaming the system for free gamepass ultimate as well, really makes me chuckle.

Every large company is buying smaller companies all the time to be competitive... Doesn't matter if that's Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Google etc... They all either research in-house or eat up start-ups and other tech houses they believe they need.

As I said no-one is pointing the finger at the other here and saying they're not practicing the same strategies where it makes business sense for them.

I do feel though Sony got caught out by Game Pass and moving into this generation they've realised they can't just rely on increasing the cost to the consumer and remain a hardware driven attachment strategy with their games.

That's why we've seen them make more exclusivity deals, support cross gen, drastically change their subscription model, buy up a load of developer houses and enter the PC market more seriously.

The tagline "we believe in generations" is a distant lie now...

So I genuinely think they are blocking game pass as much as they can because the momentum is increasing in that space (family plan coming, cloud support for your own library)...

I don't think any of these companies are evil either. They're just massive businesses making business moves... but by that measure you can't say MS is evil either.

All big business is evil, DOWN WITH CAPITALISM!

But I do like playing games on consoles created by capitalism... Bollocks.

If Sony is genuinely worried about Game Pass destroying their traditional physical and digital softwares sales model then.... wtf is with the £70 RRPs?!

Again, Sony makes zero sense with that nonsense

Well yeah there is that angle!

I don't know why Sony is continuing with its $70 model as a blanket price either in light of the competition and how the market is changing.

For prestige titles maybe but not every game is worth that and it should be on a case by case basis if they kept it in place.

Likewise I read somewhere that the majority of sales for Sony is now digital, which makes total sense now they've a digital only console as well. Having such high prices in this market will just push more people to use VPN and accounts in cheaper markets like Turkey.

There's plenty using game pass loopholes to secure better value, but equally a scan of places like HotUKDeals shows the same is happening in Sony's digital market.

If I was then I'd just reduce it now, make a big fanfare about how it's good for gamers in this crisis and take a dose of praise.

They were probably hoping to say that when they finally start releasing actual true PS5 titles the increased budget costs would necessitate a new £80 RRP tier

I have £41 in credit at CEX atm which is literally the only reason I'll be entertaining God of War: Ragnarok

Yet another small Rewards note I discovered today from the internet. Not only is 18 gift cards the limit but also under UK points that would mean the most you could redeem in one go is £450 - the price of a Series X. However, that cap - which translates as approx 550,000 is also an annual cap. If you redeem points you can't redeem that value for a full year. So, get a Series X and you can build points but not spend them for 1 full year at any value. Use say 100,000 points and within 12 months you can then only redeem 450,000 points which isn't enough for a Series X. Therefore, that is what has caused people problems in the past but also any store item greater than £450 at the most can't be gained purely through points
