When will Game Pass get good again? I loved it when I got my Series S at launch and was recommendeding it to people, but several months on, it feels stale to me. The games coming in have been uninspiring. Games I was playing leaving. When are we going to see the big takeover fruits or first party bangers?

God knows with first party, 2022 has been awful and my patience is flat out in 2023. Otherwise, I think the wider drought has been the big factor. We're going to be entering Year 3/Year 4 and considering what has been releasing are blatant PS4/XBO era shined up titles it's becoming chronic. That none of them have key first party games currently lined up for next year officially... we should be hitting the peak of the gen but they're both still in the starting pen. Kills any serious discussion of Pro consoles.

I'll admit, as it's a secondary system to my PC I do alright in not noticing the absence in new titles by but even if you discount Bethesda and Activision and their existing studios, next year marks 5 years since they bought up the likes of Double Fine, Ninja Theory, Obsidian etc and... Well... The schedule is even slower

I've been enjoying Deathloop but you might have already played that on PS5.
It has been slow on Game Pass the past few months but I'd say it's gotten really busy lately.
Edit: Forgot to add Prodeus and Metal Hellbringer if you like FPS... They're both brilliant.

I personally think Halo Infinite looks fantastic and I think it'll lose something switching to Unreal.

This still hasn't been confirmed has it? At the moment it's just a very strong rumour but reports don't know to what extent the move is, whether at all.
If it means shorter development times, easier contracting upskill and overall a better product then I'm all for it... but there are still concerns as to what it'll look like.
The good news is Xbox has teams like the Coalition to lean on in terms of Unreal experience. I'd argue they're probably the best development team out there with that engine.

Microsoft’s Activision acquisition has passed a major milestone, but is also looking ahead at some other possible hurdles and issues. The Microsoft and Activision deal is one of the biggest deals in the history of gaming, meaning it is facing heavy scrutiny from a number of angles. The nearly $70 billion dollar deal will give […]
Brazilian regulator has given the green light on the ABK deal... That leaves EU/UK/US to go with the US aiming for this November.

A glimpse into how much revenue Game Pass is generating...
MS will take a nice big slice of that, which means the remaining amount needs to be divvied out to the 477 titles on game pass.
Halo Infinite has had 20m downloads. As a comparison Horizon Zero Dawn sold 20m as well, but Horizon recorded $400m in profits. MS would have to give 13% of its total game pass revenue to 343i to match that, which clearly isn't going to happen. So the problem remains that making games for MS that get put directly onto Gamepass isn't as profitable as selling the games (which is why Sony are hanging on to that tooth and nail). Which means that Xbox games would have to be made cheaper to see an equal profit margin.
Either that, or MS would be happy to make games at a clear loss/not much profit, which I don't see happening.
I see Gamepass as an absolute win for gamers like us, and MS will be happy because they'll be taking a nice slice of that pie...but I bet developers tied to Gamepass aren't quite so thrilled.

It's even harder to discern though because Game Pass isn't the only option for purchase. To get the full picture of how profitable a single title is we now have to look at physical, digital, subscription and PC purchases on e.g. Steam.
So even with this glimpse we really don't know precisely how profitable Halo Infinite is in total.
Still, the overall revenue for Game Pass is higher than I imagined.

It's interesting even if it keeps things in the speculative realm. On Era not long ago there was a discussion that apparently Halo Infinite has been a financial flop for MS and I can totally see how that would be the case as it was an expensive first party AAA title with an extended dev cycle and a multiplayer that has utterly failed to capitalise on its market. Being free on Game Pass will have therefore cannibalised its up front earnings. Flipside though is Horizon 5 that has done really well, either they need to position their launches far better or possibly be more selective on what goes on Game Pass Day One.
It's clearly a big slice of pie too but also demonstrates how GP is still far from being something MS can rely on to support Xbox, they need the content to keep their recovery going. It'll be interesting what these leaked bits of info look like once MS actually has a proper content pipeline going (it'll be nice to stop having to say when also)

Yeah I would say it's a fair bet Halo Infinite hasn't recouped costs but I think that might also be the case if it had released without game pass existing.
It's development and engine seem to be a dumpster fire... I'm personally just glad that the actual campaign was great (in my opinion - I loved it from start to finish) and even multiplayer is great albeit with bare bones content support.
Most other titles with more straightforward development I'm sure the margins are far more pleasing. Stuff like As Dusk Falls for instance, which can be played equally well across touch devices streaming and console... I dare say game pass was the perfect vehicle for it.
