It'll probably go through anyway but I'm no fan of this company buying arms race.
I haven't bought a single acti/bliz game in the last decade so I'm not personally affected, but I don't think hoovering up companies is the best way forward for the industry.
If MS arent careful though, all they'll be remembered for is buying developers this generation.

This usually happens as markets grow exponentially in size and here gaming is no longer console or PC or mobile... it's all that and everything in between.

So yeah the big boys will take out their cheque books but I'd rather Xbox than say Meta or someone equally worse entering the market as part of the buying spree.

Xbox has been around for years in the console space and even after this splurge Sony and Nintendo etc... aren't going anywhere. That personally excites me to see where these companies go next.

From an Activision / Blizzard perspective solely on this deal I hope it goes through for those development houses affected because they've been through the ringer the last decade and if it does fall through I think it's worse overall for them.

Still not buying it. I'll never support digital only. When physical media stops, then so will I. Retro only from then on
Digital only in my eyes is no different than playing a rom.

True. Better than Tencent buying everyone. At least MS (occasionally) release games and actually care.

7th in pc... When games mostly platform on Windows and DirectX. I mean indirectly, they are 1st.

Perhaps someone should tell them to ask those 20+ companies they own to release some games. Am I right?! I'll get the aloe vera!

This is just the MS version of "poor little me" similar to what Sony did to the CMA in the first round.

I mean it's pretty whiny but it's just then playing the same game. It's really interesting to see this playing out so publicallyv but I think regardless this deal is going through...

Surely if you're paying for Game Pass then you're already supporting digital only?

In other news, Microsoft takes 2.9 billion in Game Pass revenue in 2021 (on Console), 20% of total Xbox gaming 2021 revenue.

A fair few people use Gamepass as a means to test games, buying the ones they like.

I guess but for a fraction of the cost they would of gotten from me if they had a physical release.

I like physical games. I have hundreds (mostly in boxes cluttering up my parents' garage...). But I don't get the attachment to physical to the point where you would refuse to ever buy a game that doesn't receive a physical release. Most physical releases are so underwhelming now. Half finished alpha code on the disc, no manual, a box that features bits of artwork they'd already produced for the website and social media that's been co-opted...it's not like we're missing much as more games move to digital-only.

The ownership angle can be argued, but much of the time what's on the disc is early, unpatched, and will be next to useless when the servers switch off. You will be better served at that point finding a patched pirated version to download.

My main reason for buying physical is when it’s cheaper than digital, but being able to sell the games afterwards is also a bonus

Both good reasons to buy physical! And I do the same. Plus I still have an attachment to buying them.

I get where you are coming from but having something that is not optimal is better than having nothing at all.
I've lost a few digital games over the years. It pisses me off. If those games were on disc, I'd still have them. Basically I've been robbed. Or at least that's how I see it.

It’s definitely bull**** and I’ve had the same thing happen. Piracy will end up being the only solution for preserving a lot of stuff in years to come.
