Resident Evil Producer Leaves Capcom For NetEase After 27 Years
After 27 years of loyal and extremely fruitful service, Hiroyuki Kobayashi leaves Capcom to join NetEase.

"In his latest tweet, he tells his loyal fans about the departure and what the future holds for him. The translation of the tweet states, “Today, August 12th, is my 50th birthday. As such, I would like to share something very special with everyone: After serving 27 years with gratitude, I have departed from Capcom on March 31, 2022, and will be officially joining NetEase Games as a producer.

He continues, “Detailed plans will be shared later, so please stay tuned. I will strive to continuously create more enjoyable entertainment experiences for everyone at this new company, in this new era. Thank you for the continued support.

The legendary Hiroyuki Kobayashi initially joined Capcom back in 1995. At this time, he was a programmer who worked on the original Resident Evil game. After much time and effort, he went on to produce various Capcom franchises, including Dino Crisis, Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma, Sengoku Basara, and, of course, Resident Evil.

Now, after more than two-and-a-half decades of work, he decided to move over to NetEase, an internet technology company based in China and renowned for games like Fantasy Westward Journey, Tianxia III, Heroes of Tang Dynasty Zero, Ghost II, Nostos, and Onmyoji.

NetEase also partners with Blizzard Entertainment to operate the Chinese versions of its games, and this is to bring many products to countries blocked by the language barrier, including World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, and Overwatch."

Hogwarts Legacy Has Been Officially Delayed To Next Year
The game will release in the first quarter of 2023.

"Harry Potter is one of the most significant works of fantasy in the history of media. However, the prominent franchise has hardly touched the gaming industry. For many decennia, Harry Potter fanciers have craved a fantasy-based game set in the Harry Potter universe. Hogwarts Legacy is the franchise’s first promised AAA project, which has whirred around the gaming community.

Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player massively open-world action RPG set in the magical 1800s. It is taken straight out of the original Harry Potter franchise. The development has mostly remained in secrecy; however, some details have leaked out due to the anticipation of the community."

That Kirby game has popped up on the EU Coming Soon section of the e-shop so presumably is on its way pretty fast everywhere else

Makes me wonder if at the Embracer HQ there's a large scale Monopoly board getting some high stakes use

This bit is probably the bit I am most directly excited about. Plus, look which handsome devil saw it coming!

With the backing of Freemode, Bitwave can expand the internal development team and build a publishing team. Bitwave will bring the highly regarded shoot ’em up games from Toaplan to PC and publish the Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom classic platformer Gimmick! on console and modern consoles in the west.

Could be worth a watch? Given there was a version of Gimmick! for the Exa I'm hoping a new home version could be an option.
But yeah, Embracer feels like a pretty seismic shift in terms of big name games companies. I'd really like to see them show how they're adding value to studios they've already bought before buying more, but hey. Between buying up companies left right and centre, and the whole "buy all of the games" mission, it really gives off a 'new money' vibe.

Can't let this one slide by without saying how awesomely stupid it is. I want it.

Looks like Gimmick! is going to get a second time to shine it's been re-released on all consoles this year both digitally & physically. Don't think it's the arcade one just the famicom original.

I am delighted about the Gimmick news!

Also good news: City Connection's port of Akai Katana lands this December on Switch, Xbox and PS4 (posted just NSW and PS4 before but only as I was looking at physical versions - don't think MS version is getting a boxed release)

Team behind Blazing Chrome have got a new game coming; Vengeful Guardian Moonrider

Despite there seemingly being more hand-to-hand combat, it still reminds me even more of Contra

Wasn't really sure where to put this, but did YOU know that Team Ladybug (Drainus, Deedlit in Wonder Labryinth, Touhou Luna Nights) made a themed Shin Megami Tensei metroidvania game? It was done as a promotional prologue to Strange Journey Redux, and was available for free on the Atlus site for 2 months. It's since lost to the annals of time, but the internet being the internet means that it's "around", even with a fan translation kicking about for it.

Synchronicity Prologue is a delightful surprise of a game! Team Ladybug really didn’t have to go this hard and provide one of the most concise and enjoyable indie Metroidvanias for a marketing camp…

News to me and very cool.

*cough* (it'd be a terrible shame if someone told me how to make this work on a Steam Deck) *cough*
