This may be worth while then. All 3D Macross games are ****e in my opinion. Yep, owned them all at some point besides any on the PS3 (if there were any on that). The only good Macross game is on the SFC followed by the Saturn title but even that is questionable.

        I really enjoyed Robotech: Battlecry.

There's a Robotech sidescroller on the Switch already btw.

          Yup, I did too.

Yakumo, if you've not seen Macross 30 on the PS3 you might want to check it out, it's not bad.

Ubisoft are facing slower than expected sales and have cancelled 3 games to try and claw back $200m.
Perhaps they should try releasing non-Janky asset flipped ****e?

Mirror's Edge achievement designer: "Achievements have been bad for gaming"

                Comment

Hard to know without knowing how long devs spend implementing them. There are games I've played longer than I otherwise would have for them so in those cases it was worth the games time implementing them. These days I don't chase them and have never felt a game was designed with them in mind, in most cases little thought seems to have gone into the lists too so unless they are a particularly big resource drain I'm not sure they're high on the list of bad for gaming ideas.

I feel like they should be a fun Easter egg with no points system attached to them, so they're fun to find, but it doesn't matter if you don't make them pop.

I have always felt like achievements are one of those things just designed to squeeze more time from a game rather than more fun. They are certainly not the only thing guilty of this - so many progression systems and unlockables seem designed to keep you doing things you otherwise wouldn’t do because it’s not fun. But achievements seem even more transparent when it comes to this. That’s just my own view and, being honest, I don’t think I ever recovered from that early Dead Rising achievement that required a stupid amount of hours of continuous play.

Yep, it was great fun getting them in Burnout Paradise because they had you do things online but weren't punishing to complete, fun challenge type things. Many are obscenely obscure or tied to padding that shouldn't be in there in the first place.

I've never been someone that's chased achievements but I've always admired them as a concept. Microsoft's invention of gamer score and achievements, as a meta game which ties every other game together, was really clever and highly successful in execution.

I'm not a developer so can't say if they mess up the development of games but as a player, their presence has never bothered me.

The main issue with them tends not to be with the achievements themselves, but more that on Xbox/PS you must have them, and they must conform to a minimum level of quality (the rules are numerous). Authoring all of the icons, badges, glyphs, those weird backgrounds you had on Xbox One which were per-achievement... There's actually quite a lot to implementing them even as a box-ticking exercise.

One fun one - Microsoft at one point added a rule saying "you can't have an achievement which completes solely for completing other achievements". They did this kinda out of spite. When the PS3 introduced trophies, the original platinums were a trophy where it unlocked for getting all other trophies. As a result, several Xbox 360 games around that time adopted a "get all the other achievements" cheevo, because that way, all the "award" logic was the same for both platforms, and that made development easier (if it was broke on one platform, it was probably broke on both). MS added a rule which forbade this.

Yeah that all sounds like a pain in the arse, not gonna lie.

Overall, I like achievements and GS. I certainly don't chase them and on most games I only have a handful, but in (the very few) games where I've got all or most achievements, it's because I had fun getting them or was just so into the game that they came naturally anyway.

My Peppa Pig achievements were very hard won, for example.

Weirdly though, I couldn't really give a toss about trophies on PS. They just don't have the same draw for me for some reason.
