Not going near it. But then I was never a big fan of the franchise so I probably wouldn't have without the controversy.

Was a huge Harry potter fan until Wizarding World nonsense started and Rowling becoming/ revealing she was someone I didn't want to associate with anymore

I think, to help keep this thread focussed, we should accept that the involvement of JKR makes engagement with this game problematic.

However, it looks like it's a decent game and a really good use of the Harry Potter licence.
So if we can try to keep chat about the game, rather than JKR, it's appreciated.

LIVE THE UNWRITTEN - Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Now you can take control of the action and be at the center of your own adventure in the wizarding world. Embark on a journey through familiar and new locations as you explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize your character and craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade talents, and become the wizard you want to be. Experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You have received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and soon discover that you are no ordinary student: you possess an unusual ability to perceive and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide if you will protect this secret for the good of all, or yield to the temptation of more sinister magic. Discover the feeling of living at Hogwarts as you make allies, battle Dark wizards, and ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world. Your legacy is what you make of it.

Where do we draw the line though she reignited reading for millions of children and created a world that people love, with an inclusive cast of characters that dealt with racism and sexism, all for her to go and burn all the goodwill to the ground by questioning the erosion of safe spaces for women if it was just that you might think well ok looking at her background but it feels like shes openly trying to be an antagonist now.

so buy or Boycott? i’m gonna buy games looks the shiz….
Buy! I don't care for the drama

Yes, the detractors have made this one of the most successful launches ever. Twitch streamers have been attacked by bullies for playing it, causing some to apologise and stop, thinking it would harm their "career". The response to this has made it the most watched stream on Twitch. Nice to see the general public standing up to these saddos who actively hurt the trans community they claim to be part of.

As for Rowling, she has done more to help children than basically anyone else. So good for her.

The game looks great too. I did not expect that style combat.

I can understand you wanting to shut down talk on this, as if it came to it we could derail any-thread on here with talk about problematic history and involvements that company have. why is Trans rights the the hill you die on while ignoring the horrors of Disney, Twitter, Ticktock, ect or consuming products from Nike, Starbucks, Nestle, Mars ect. it's tricky being a human in 2023.

Technically this looked dreadful in the previews and vids, but looks like the devs turned it around, good for them. My mate is a hard core potter fan and is loving every second of this, one to pick up in a sale for me personally.

Definitely needs looking at, especially when things like religion bashing is cool on here

Simpsons mentality is best - Everything as fair game unless it becomes malicious or ill intended

For the game itself, it's very intriguing to see a well reviewed Harry Potter game. Parts of it look good though there's a somewhat drab aesthetic to it too so I'm unsure if it will get a bit samey over its course

Bit of a spoiler but it's an old TV show so fair warning, The good place handled this topic really well, everyone has a score that they gain throughout their life do a good deed your points go up do a bad deed your points go down, it turned out in the show that nobody had got into heaven in a thousands years, due too modern life being so complicated and it being so hard to avoid doing something wrong.

Something as simple as going shopping in the supermarket resulted in gaining a massive amount of negative points because of all the exploitation and corruption in the system. Buying a Nestle chocolate bar seems harmless, but behind this product is, exploited coco growers paid nothing, palm oil plantations destroying wildlife habitats and rain-forests. Then theirs all the other horrid stuff they do like exploiting 3rd world country's with powdered baby milk, and causing droughts by stripping areas of all its water so it can bottle it up and sell it elsewhere for massive profit.

**** this is massively off topic, balls err my physical copy has shipped cant wait to play it yay.

                          So... I'm screwed either way

I don't think I can go near this anyway, I still haven't finished Hi-Fi Rush yet

I'll be playing this, for sure. I may even get a PS5 to enjoy Hogwarts in its full glory.

If I restricted my artistic/literary/musical consumption to the works of creators whose personal politics I personally agreed with, I would have limited options indeed.

Presumably none of us would have played the ridiculous glut of Lovecraftian games over recent years, including Bloodborne, given the well-known xenophobia and misogyny of the author.

Anyone think this is ok for kids to play through?

I'm not interest in Harry Potter at all but my kids love the movies and my eldest daughter is really getting into playing a few games these days... though mainly stuff like Disney Dreamlight Valley, Spyro the Dragon etc...

She's just turned 8 so wonder if I should pick this up and help her through it.

Should be, apparently it's mostly been rated higher than for outright for kids due to the MTX rather than in-game content. If they're fans they should get a kick out of the locations
