No it isn't - there are now going to be thousands of Yuzu clones put up on Github from everyone that's downloaded the repository before it was taken down.

Nintendo will just end up going after all of them as they discover a new one. They fact they went in this hard suing it's because it's going to affect the new switch due to backwards compatability as it leaves a huge way in. I can't see them letting variants of the emulator stay up on the net. To be honest they need to pull their fingers out and find some decent way of encrypting the software, the fact that the switch was busted open to hacking with a paper clip was laughable.

Nintendo just got annoyed ToTK leaked and was fully playable before official release, which when you think about it says more about their own security.
The fact they didn't take down Ryunjinx (yet) and there are only really two main players in the Switch emulation space tells you everything.
This was more a warning shot. I guess there is a larger debate around the ethics of game preservation and emulating systems which are still available at retail... I dare say in 1-2 more years Nintendo won't care at all about switch emulation.

Reading into this, they absolutely screwed themselves. They gated the latest builds behind Patreon membership, and then when ToTK leaked they used leaked copies to update the latest version for compatibility. They then promoted that the paid Patreon version would allow you to play ToTK early.
No wonder Nintendo took them down.

Citra being taken down sucks, though. 3DS is a dead platform now so why gatekeep like this?

I'm very hesitant on buying digital content on the Switch; I bought a few things on the VC which are now effectively lost. I only buy digital Switch games when it's an absolute steal.

Nintendo knows Nintendo fans will buy multiple copies of the same game over and over on different platforms though, so why would they ever do anything differently?

That said, you're absolutely right - purchases should be definitely transferrable between platforms at this point.

There's surely a large number of mainstream consumers who have digitally bought the Zeldas and Mariokarts at £45 or whatever they are on the Switch store.
I wonder how that's gonna go down when Nintendo inevitably invalidate all of those purchases. It's difficult to say, in advance, as there's no real precedent.

Have digital Wii, WiiU, DSi and 3DS software purchases been invalidated??
