A last round in the chamber type of Direct but that"s what you'd expect this long in the Switch's tooth. Mario & Luigi: Brothership was the best looking game there. I was interested in what they were trying with Zelda but once the gameplay kicked in it looked a lot less interesting so I'll likely bench that one till a later time. Prime 4 was a lot closer to the other 3 than I expected considering how many years it's been, add another expectation for cross gen launch title.

I think they must have gotten an LLM to write the script for that direct, the puns were more stale than a baker's unemptied bin, as is the clicking - please stop.

Couple of interesting things mixed in with some shovelware, but reasonable overall.Last edited by MartyG; 18-06-2024, 18:19.

The direct had quite a few surprises today, i wasn't expecting anything major and yet there's quite a few things i want, mario & luigi for sure as well as the DQ stuff. The thing is even before the direct was shown i already had quite a list of preorders for indie stuff releasing over the rest of the year so i already had plenty to be getting on with even in it's twilight years the switch keeps getting so much software which is why i have no intrest at all in current next gen consoles or even the switch 2.

Just watched the Prime video. The bit at the end was more promising (lush alien world). However the beginning was very generic space marine stuff that reminded me most directly of Red Faction 2’s opening level that I recently tried on Series X via back compat. A more generous comparison might be Halo: Reach. In either case though missing the mark as far as Metroid games go. Surprising given Dread was a recent return to form.
I will caveat this by saying it’s far too little a view of what the finished product might be so will give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

We are so spoilt for RPGs these days.
DQ III remake was top of the list for me although I'll probably get it on PS5. There's a collectors edition available but its very underwhelming and a massive £200. I'll stick to the standard edition. It's great to see the first two games getting the same treatment also.

Killer Direct today; so much I was interested in, and it's not even the case that it's all multi-format stuff I'll play elsewhere.
Asking for a friend: can anyone with a current NSO plus subscription do me a favour and see if Zelda 4 Swords allows for two (or more) local players, or if it's entirely online?

I agree with the sentiments about Prime. It looked like it was leaning towards a spacey combat kind of vibe which is not where Metroid excels, but maybe they just did this because it's more spectacular than videos showing Samus creeping about on your own. Anyway, we'll see. Kind of interested in the Zelda although I'm not thrilled at the idea of solving puzzles by stacking chairs and tables. Hopefully the dungeons/puzzles are ingenious and there's more to it than that. Not blown away by this Direct, but I'm kind of interested in those two, which - fingers crossed - should make a nice way to see out the Switch.

Ace attourney collection has gone live on amazon japan, has english like the other collections. They also have some of the other direct games up like mario & luigi & the new zelda one. I grabbed a preorder of mario & luigi as i have all of the games in the series in japanese anyway, if it ends up been a multi language release then bonus,
Here's the amazon link for ace attourney at least, as it's hidden away right on the final pages of the preorder section so it doesn't appear easily unless you click right to the and as it was mixed in with the usa games amazon has up fpr preorder.

Not sure I like the character designs on DQIII HD-2D remake. I much prefer either pixel art or other styles like Awakening or cel shading to this faux painterly style. RPGs are not really my thing though, just an aesthetic reaction.Last edited by egparadigm; 19-06-2024, 20:44.
