I watched the DF tech analysis right now and it's probably the best one they've done in a long time.

The fact they've gotten this running at a near locked 30fps when you can literally fall from the sky is pretty amazing given how old the hardware is now. Sure there are ways to tank the frame rate but it's an incredible feat of engineering and probably the last high point for the Switch before we see updated hardware.

The real time shadows and weather alone must tax the system no end, Nintendo are riding bones at this stage in the hardwares life, the horse is long gone.

Yeah it's crazy isn't it... plus the bounce lighting and the cloud system.

Some of it is just trickery but it makes the end product greater when it's all combined.

I'm just going to assume there's lots of back end complexities to the engine Nintendo have worked wonders with. To me it still looks visually indistinguishable from the WiiU predecessor that itself I never felt looked like a hardware pushing game. BOTW can deliver lovely sweeping vistas but the majority of the time its one of the uglier Zelda's.

i cant play mine today either, as im' donating my copy to my friends little boy as for some reason despite the fact that she preorded it months ago Amazon wont be delivering it till Monday, (both copys are coming to my house as shes in the middle of moving house). He was dead excited as him and his friend where having a sleep over and getting pizza with the plan being to stay up really late and play it together all weekend

to be ten again and have nothing to worry about but video games on a weekend. i remember having similar gaming weekends surrounding new releases with friends when i was a kid so its nice that their is still excitement around big games, really hits you in the nostagia.

I lived that experience through rental services, remember many times asking the guy down the indoor market games store to hold me rental copy of many a big game.

You have to hand it to Nintendo. 35 years on and they're still able to thrill new generations of kids with a product that is conceptually and thematically absolutely consistent with the original design.

                        Miyamoto is a genius.

He started with Pokemon and has moved on to all things Zelda, he borrowed the remake of Links Awakening and a few of zelda graphic novels a bit back and has been hooked on the Zelda games for the switch ever since.

This is the first one hes been able to play from launch and its all hes gone on about for weeks.

I mean a more valuable life lesson would of been to make him wait as you can’t always have everything in life you want, but your way works as well I guess, shrugs.

No arguments from me on that.

But I would strongly suggest that Aonuma-san is the reason that Zelda has enticed and captivated generations of new fans (who didn't necessarily give a sh1t about Mario/Metroid/Pokémon, etc.) since Ocarina of Time. He has largely been responsible for dragging the franchise into the modern-age in extraordinary fashion.

I'm a massive fan of Miyamoto-san but I'm not sure he does what Aonuma-san has done with Zelda.

Comparisons are odious and of course it's thanks to the contribution of so many people that Zelda has thrived as a series (Aonuma probably most prominently!).

The reason I reference Miyamoto is because I admire the strength of the roots of Zelda. You can draw a direct line between Tears and his original inspiration of creating a digital version of his childhood summers exploring caves and forests in the countryside. I love that!
