I can't see myself buying that, it would be rolling about on my shelf

I think it looks naff, it seems utterly redundant as product and it's misguided from a marketing perspective
The lack of a disc drive is an awkward one. It may be understandable if they're going to copy Sony and sell one as an add-on but the design of the system makes it seem unlikely. Making it look like a cylinder Series X jus means it looks like a cheap Alexa clone, they would have been better set to give the brand an image update given how sluggish sales are. To launch a revision that offers absolutely nothing worthwhile whilst being the same price as the model you're replacing is also a bold move, really hard baking the RRP's this gen but also giving people little reason to jump on board in the second half of the gen.
I love it
The reason I love it? It means that my Series X is sitting pretty for the next half of a decade. I'm in the camp that looks at this leak and to me it screams that an Xbox Series X Pro isn't coming, something that alligns with what MS said also a while back. But, also, even if one was released it's also pretty much rendered obsolete out of the gates. Any Pro model would be Xmas 2025 at the very earliest, you'd be looking at an RRP comfortably into the $700+ range for a system that would see its successor likely announced a little over 18 months later ahead of a 2028 launch. Amazing news, we might even reach a point of getting regular current gen designed releases at some point before the next-gen arrives
As for the controller, meh. Haptics are very take it or leave them and the tweaks make it slightly less visually appealing. The inclusion of a rechargable battery is long over due but I wait on pricing and a better visual design (not that that should take long given MS's track record on controller designs) - or even finally a decent Elite 3.

Xbox Game Pass made $230 million revenue in one month, most users pay for full subscriptions (tweaktown.com)
Figures from around April 2022 suggest of the 25m Game Pass subs at the time around 21.5m were on Xbox and 3.5m were on PC
There were 11m Gold members, with these shifting over to Core we should at some point hear about there being approx 40m Game Pass subscribers. However, the figures also suggest that unless Microsoft can drive a growth in Xbox Series S/X sales the service will have largely maxed out.
With that in mind:
So, when the next-gen Xbox launches in 2028 Microsoft is aiming for Xbox Series S/X to have sold approx. 60m units compared to the approx. 40m Xbox One accomplished

All things they could, and it would be reasonable to expect, to be added to existing model revisions over the course of its life. None of them are going to shift the needle on Xbox's sales struggles

Only thing I am not sold on is the look of the controller but functionally it seems like an improvement all round as well.

I'd just get an SD card for the Series X if storage became an issue, as it is I still have 6-8 games installed and around 400GB+ spare at any given time on the default drive. If power efficiency was a big concern it would mean I shouldn't be running a console at all, such is the small difference it makes. WiFi... mileage obviously depends on a case by case basis but considering the outlay (MS Rewards none with standing) might as well just wait for the successor. I think more interesting is the rigid RRP, it suggests that if Microsoft thinks that Sony will be releasing a Pro they think it will either not dent the market in an important way, will be exceedingly expensive or more likely both.

I don't think I'd be as bothered doing the same for the Series S but we haven't seen what that refresh is like yet.
Generally the past couple of iterations I've either traded in at Game (EB Games in Australia) or used rewards to grab the newer console and sold the old one. Usually at the time of release the trade in value is still semi-decent that it's worth it.
Anyway... I can see how this new model wouldn't be for everyone given its digital only but it's basically a perfect fit for my needs.

Neither is an issue mind, I just don't see what MS thinks will lead this to move the needle for them and their struggles to gain ground hardware sales wise. If it came even with a £50 price drop it would make more sense. I'd have even expected that to be a given considering the recent relatively small price drop to that level for PS5 saw its sales explode even more meaning Sony now have a very clear line of attack on them.
