Unfortunately, I'm the sort of gamer who buys loads of games and never gets around to actually playing them. But recently, I've decided that enough is enough and I've really knuckled down hard.

Over the last week, I've completed The Twin Snakes and Resident Evil Zero, admittedly, I played them both on easy, but I'm **** at games and it was either do that or never get anywhere in them.

Anyway, I'm really chuffed with my achievement and am now battling my way through four swords.

Has anyone else recently finished something that's pleased them?

I buy far too many games and simply don't have the time to play many nowadays. However so far this year I've completed the following:

      Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
      Gran Turismo 4: Prologue (PS2)
      Red Dead Revolver (PS2)
      Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC)
      Super Mario Sunshine (GC)

      Which is a pathetic amount

Finished in first 6 months of 2004:

        Halo
        Chronicles Of Riddick 8 hrs
        Katamari Damacy 4 hrs
        Silent Hill 3 10 hrs
        Echo Night Beyond 6 hrs

Notice how most of those games are pretty short?

Summer lull is pretty good for finishing games, I might attack Gregory Horror Show before Q4 comes, never got around to finishing it.

I really enjoyed it but it's not as good as everyone led me to believe, IMO. It's still an excellent game though
Crank up the difficulty and then go back and try again. Or don't tell me, you have

Well I reckon I could easily count the number of completed games on one hand. And that's ever.

I'm 33, married and have one child. I don't do bad for cash so can indulge in new games pretty much when I want. I tend to play a game until I either tire of it, get something fresher (and hopefully better) or become occupied with something else.

This weekend I considered buying Riddick but I was watching the Olympics on Friday night, out for lunch Saturday day, out drinking Saturday night and at Bingo (an in-law thing) on Sunday. I also need to be studying (OU) this week and on top of this I am playing Gregory Horror Show, which I bought a while ago (Play.com ?10) but haven't really played. Most of my time is spent like this, so although I do buy (perhaps too many) games (I look for bargains where I can) I don't always get to play them properly.

However...! On the odd occasion that something grips me (and I mean really grips me!) I will play it to death. Halo, OOT, Luigi's Mansion, RSC2, PGR2, Ico, BGE, etc. This doesn't mean I'll complete them, just that I'll play them a lot. Some games are difficult to get back into (MGS for instance) and sometimes I just want a quick blast (wife drying hair before we go out) which means I have to manically grab a game which loads fast, plays fast and is over quickly. Think XBox for this.

Of course the other reason why I don't complete games is that sometimes I get stuck. Metroid Prime (love this game - it's the atmosphere) at 50%? I'm never going to get past the one boss so it sits unplayed. VJ? Just got too damn hard for me to beat. Wind Waker? Left it alone for a while and forgot where I was (Jap version). Resident Evil (GC)? Same as WW. The list goes on.

So to overcome my guilt I like to consider how much time I spent playing a title and work out its hourly cost. ?2 p/h is ok but ?1 is much better value. You can't get much in life for ?1 an hour so I'm ok with a game that gives me this I also do the same with clothes that I don't wear much (cost / occasions worn = value for money).

Finished Chronicles Of Riddick in a couple of days' play. That was fun. A great deal of fun, really; all the same I appreciate the points it had knocked off. It is rather shaky, has very noticeable glitches, doesn't quite hang together, could have used some more fine-tuning and some real replay incentive (though I didn't mind the length that much. I felt much longer would have felt like dragging it out... I suppose the last segment could have been longer, though). Still, great game, and something I'm pleased I bought rather than rented, since I think I will give it another play through. After the utter **** that was Enclave and the tedium of trying out Knights Of The Temple, I repeat it's pretty miraculous for Vin Diesel to have got Starbreeze to turn this out, and I'm very interested to see what Tigon do next... Starbreeze, too.

Gradius V is this close to being 1-credited, Stage 7 1st boss is a c**t though.

So far I've finished Far Cry, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Max Payne 2 and Deus Ex 2 this year. I want to finish all the games in my GC collection of which I have completed none. I'm currently going through Super Mario Sunshine and recently picked up Viewtiful Joe. So I'm playing through them at the moment. I'm also waiting for my memory card 251 to come in the mail, as I need it to save super monkey ball, Ikaruga and luigi's mansion games.

I've completed Gregory Horror Show, it has very surprising ending, kind of depressing and funny at the same time. I can't believe it took me 13 hours to complete it.

My last game to beat before Q4 is that bastard Manhunt. I'm on the level where you have to save the family and it pisses me off no end, which makes me more determined to beat it.

I've got so many games sitting unfinished, mostly because I've only been playing Beatmania IIDX and Initial D for the best part of the year. The only games I've finished recently have been 1080 Avalanche which was just the other day and MGS Twin Snakes, picked up PN03 again last night which I hadn't touched since I bought it last December.

Games I promise/should finish would be:
                          Ninja Gaiden
Viewtiful Joe (on the final stage with this one)
F-Zero GX (****ing Diamond Cup Master Class)
                          Gradius V
                          R-Type Final
                          Castlevania (PS2)
Super Mario Sunshine (still got about 30 shines to get)
                          Prince of Persia
                          Gregory Horror Show
                          PN03

Just finished the Four Swords on the GameCube.

Whilst I enjoyed playing it, it was piss easy to complete (about from the last dungeon) and has some really cheap bits in it (that ****ing desert of doubt) in order to extend its longevity. Still, it was miles better than I was expecting and almost makes me want to start playing the Wind Waker again (I've started it so many times but found it really ****ing dull).

Think I'll make my way through Chronicles of Riddick next...

Just rinsed Ico last night, it had to be the best last half hour of a game I have EVER played, so ****ing satisfying.

Now i'm gonna turn my attention back to SH4 which I have stopped playing in a grump because I picked up that cursed doll, which now means I cant heal in my room anymore which now means i'm stuck for health items in subway revisited and THE DOGS KEEP ON KILLING ME!!!!!

                              ...

Finished Manhunt finally, the last few levels are sort of satisfying, but the end made me feel a bit sick. It's a great concept with poor design and is mostly style over substance.

It would have been lots better if you could climb walls and choose your own routes through the environment more, the lack of freedom grated and I didn't like having my weapons taken off me almost every time I started a level.

The stealth was pretty poor and the gunplay better, but the 'shoot them when they come around the corner' technique works a little too well, kinda exposed the AI.

This game felt so much longer than I expected - I thought it had 10 levels, not 20, kept thinking that this has to be the second last level over and over again.

I would never have kept it up without Starkweather, the one brilliant thing about the game, I didn't really feel like that was him at the end though, he was pathetic.

Overall, not a terrible game, but not a great one either.
