Nah, either Sonic CD or Sonic 3 & Knuckles are the pinnacle.

If we are talking about the best sonic then the sms version is the best.

            Sonic 2 > Sonic 2 (SMS) > Sonic CD > Sonic 1.

IMO sonic was ruined after sonic adventure. Well sonic 3 didn't feel right to tell ya the truth. Aswell as sonic R. Sonic Adventure was good.

Sonic Adventure 2 sucked, everything after SA 1 sucked. Hero's was worse, I put it down after the 2nd or 3rd level. Thinking back on it, the sole reason is because its repetative crap. Mindless repetative crap, all you do is run forward.

Sonic doesn't work in 3D at all.

As someone said, it's too start-stop. No flow. No rhythm. The 3D world he inhabits is also bizarre and incongrous.

The series should've been laid to rest on the Megadrive. Sonic was a product of his time. One that doesn't have a place now.

Ive been a massive fan of Sonic since a kid and Sonic Adventure was fantastic.

It had bugs and an annoying camera but the actual game shone through. Beautiful, fast, involving and fun. Kinda the trademark of Sonic games. I wasent as keen on Sonic adventure 2 as it was less involving than the 1st and Sonic Heroes reminds me of the racing sections of SA2. Not good.

Out of the 2D games of Sonic there are 3 best ones that are great but cannot be compared to the 3D ones directly as they are diffrent. Sonic The Hedgehog on The Mega Drive and Master System was fantastic for it's worlds and level design whereas the but the MS version is slightly more ingenious as there seems to be more puzzles and hidden areas as the chaos emeralds are not found in a special stage they are found in the levels. Although I prefer the Mega Drive version. And Sonic CD offers nothing as varied or diffrent as the original but offers hundreds of levels which look stunning and play beautifully.

Out of the 3D games the best is without a doubt Sonic Adventure. That game for me was my Mario 64. I love both games but I would easily choose Sonic as the best. Although I am a bit biased!

My honest opinion of what Sonic Team should do next? Let the original Japanese dept. create a 2D sonic game with not a Viewtiful Joe style 2D but fully 2D graphics. Also let them continue with the Adventure series. By the way, I know this will not happen.

A bit harsh and untrue dont you think? Thank god they dident take you're advice when Nintendo decided to create Zelda in 3D.

With Sonic Adventure on the DC I thought the series had taken a positive step into 3D. I mean it had its faults yeah, but the potential was there for something far better, lots of room for improvement. However, the oppurtunity for this improvement has been lost, we just haven't seen it. Theres still a place for Sonic though, I just think they need to get back to basics.

Thank god Nintendo had a focussed vision when they took Mario into the third dimension.

This, you see is my problem with Sonic 3D - it hasn't been very well thought out (imo).

If Sega had sat down and really thought about how they were going to recapture the essence that made 2D Sonic so compelling before switiching to the third dimension, then the series would've gone on to great things.

Oh, and Sonic shouldn't talk either.

                              I agree with that totally!

I loved Sonic the most in Sonic CD - he didnt say a word and was so wicked as a character simply due to this. Like at the end when he rescues Amy, he just leaves her there - he was an enigma in Sonic CD and a much more likable character because of it.

Sonic Adventure I could stand (Shiny new DC novelty perhaps, and the nice music). It felt more like Nights than Sonic though.

Sonic Adventure 2 nearly made me sick. Finished it on the day of release and then traded it back in for Kuru kuru Kururin. More bugs than SA1, and the fact that you could complete most levels just by pushing 'up' and jumping at the right time. All those emerald searching games were piss-weak tea & buns too.

Sonic 3 with S+K plugged in is the bomb, next to Sonic CD. I need to find a MD/MCD combo just for these. Some of the very best in-game music around (Sonic 2 had decent tunes too).

I remember spending all damn day on the very final master emerald bonus game on S+K before I got to the Doomsday Zone (you had to f'n go on a suicide run then bounce backwards through a sea of reds - crazy ****). Doomsday Zone though - the very final level on a 2D sonic - if only I knew at the time, I would have embraced it with an instantly nostalgic approach. Good days...
