Isn't there a restraining order banning you from Edge postings?

Excellent about the Siren review, I hope other magazines pick up on the same thing. Sony Europe - Boo to you!

Did we get a mention in the Otogi 2 review? Ya know, they may have said something about ignoring the crack-heads or sommin

Most reviews are pish. At least Edge's are short so I can get to the meat of the magazine; the features and the columns.

Isn't the smarmy attitude meant to be ironic? People complain that Edge takes itself too seriously but I think its the readers to be honest. They're so easily offended.

If you dont agree with the scores thats fine, different odds for different sods i say. But if you read the writing in the reviews then they almost allways highlight the best bits and the worst bits and give you a good overview of what the game is like.

Besides even if they dont get all the scores right all the time there simply isnt a mag to touch them.

I used to agree but the overall quality of the magazine has taken a real nosedive over the past year or so.

Agreed, I think I might unsubscribe to Edge and Subscribe to GamesTM instead.

I don't mind the score, it's their opinion, but they miss out so much it's amazing. It's overused argument of mine, I know, but it seems like EDGE releases the initial Review, and Poole, RedEye and Biffo have to release patches for the review, telling you about key gameplay elements they failed to discuss. It's like the idiot Nintendrone fanboys who review games before they come out, except EDGE tarts it up with fancy words.

They can enjoy a game, all they want. They could give Manhunt a 10/10 for all I care. I wouldn't mind. Like Vienna, it means nothing to me. It's their opinion.
But I do go on what they actually discuss about the game. Y'know like save systems, respawning enemies and a lot of toing and froing.

Course, in the previous issue, their form had improved.

Besides even if they dont get all the scores right all the time there simply isnt a mag to touch them.
GamesTM, whilst different, is also good.

GamesTM is different alright. It's definately getting better and better. The previews and features still need quite alot of work though. They're long and light on content.

Retro section is nice but I'd like them to cover less and in more depth.

Both mags have alot you won't find on the net really. Most sites tend to follow the same CVG format except a couple like Insert Credit and Way of the Rodent.

I like Psyvariar, but not as much as most people on this forum. However, what the holy hell are they on about? Damage powers up the player? Not enough variety in a game that rewards good play with new routes and different levels? In a magazine that in the reviews prologue praises repetitive games like Serious Sam and rewards Otogi 2 8/10 for being...

What has happened to Edge? The reviewers all seem to be jaded. All the great games out over the last couple of months and I seem to get the impression they are not enjoying them

The market for video games magazines is a pretty poor way IMHO, ABC figures show that most magazines are having a hard time, EDGE more than most.

The likes of GameTM have made some big inroads into the market share of EDGE, which is no bad thing IMHO.

This style of games magazine needs to be written by enthusiasts, not graduates straight out of Uni.

The likes of Martin Mathers , Richard Ledbetter, Jason Brookes, Julian Rignell?etc..etc can play games firstly and secondly write/edit a good article too !

As my good mate Doug Bone commented recently, do games company people play games anymore ?

I worked in games for 12 years, loved it, still crap at playing most games?.but at least I enjoy them.

Didnt Jason Brookes write that appaling column in EDGE where all he did was whine and moan about he didnt like getting free flights to America to see E3, and how it all bored him, and how next time someone else could go in his place because he hated having to do something most people would kill to do?

Then again, I might be mistaken, but that was a terrible E3 column EDGE printed, made me want to gouge my eyes out and cry salty tears into the wounds. Yup, free flights and entry to trade shows, really awful Id guess.

Otogi 2 deserves an eight for the falling island level alone.

FWIW, those complaining about the (perfectly respectable) Bujingai score might be interested to know that a lot of people think Edge has overrated it - of course, said people's opinions should be taken with a pinch of salt seeing as they're a) judging a review by an arbitrary number and b) SICK AND WRONG.

not graduates straight out of Uni.? what the hell are you talking about?, so Uni graduates dont love gaming
Im guessing you never went to Uni, shame

No that is not what I'm saying !

Nothing wrong with graduates....and no I'm not one !

My point concerns that graduates leaving Uni knowing nothing about games and walking straight into a job on a games magazine, it was a rife practice during the 90s.

Gaming is about passion, you need to understand this to be able to connect with your readers, and certainly EDGE has not coneected with many of its core readership for many months.
