A rule of thumb I tend to follow.

Beware all magazines that come with free tip books or DVDs.

Is there something wrong with me?

For the past 4-5 months I have been purchasing Edge magazine for the sole reason of reading Toshihiro Nagoshi and Biffo.

In your opinion do you feel that is strange? Buying a ?4 magazine for 2 articles?

My friends suggest I seek medical help!

In my defense though, it is generally accepted that the magazine has been in a gradual decline in recent times. Yet Biffovision and AV Out still standout for for me.

Anyway I await your expert and informed diagnosis.

You've got too much money, just read it in WHSmith like the rest of us commoners.

Having read all of this thread (as well as numerous other Edge related topics), there seems to be a lot of people with confused opinions and divided loyalties towards Edge nowadays. Only a few of you seem to be thinking how I am (I certainly don't feel Edge is 'better' in any respects).

I've been reading Edge consistantly for 4 years now, and took an interest in it's issues before this time and I fell in love with the magazine for its knowledge, intelligence and general love for great games. I hardly ever disagreed with Edge, it felt like it loved and knew games just as I did.

I stopped buying Edge about 3 issues back. The reviews, which I and many others (Edge included) felt were the mainstay of the magazine, seem to take a dramatic fall: I couldn't agree with them anymore as I had for all those years. It finally dawned upon me that this magazine wasn't for me anymore when Edge declared it's most played games of the month to be 'Tiger Woods 2004' and 'Need for Speed Underground' in one issuse.

Not just the reviews of course, but the articles of recent times are similary depressing and forgettable. Maybe it's just all been covered before, I don't know.

With the total abundance of even 'good' single format magazines for the time being, it leaves me with nothing to read.

This was my first post on NTSC-UK.

You bring up some interesting points Tetsuo.

In my opinion, Edge is like any other magazine on the shelf, in that it goes through cycles of highs and lows. Different writers come and go. Executive decisions are made for good/bad.

Personally, I am gonna stand by Edge and continue buying it in the hope it returns to its rightful place as the one and only intelligent videogame monthly.

In all fairness, I was pleased their 'In The Making' this month was Tapper.

I loved that game. Could play it forever and not get bored.

                Tetsuo - firstly, welcome.

Secondly, I'd recommend giving Edge another go next month. I don't know if its Mott's influence or what, but the reviews seem to have taken a dramatic turn for the better over the last month or two.

Got a subscription renewal reminder this morning - from Joao Diniz-Sanchez...

He couldn't have fallen out with them that much to still be typing these out and licking the envelopes.

If you take a look at Edge's contributors section you'll see that Joao, Mark and David all still write for the magazine.

                    I wasn't aware of Joao's freelance envelope-licking gig, mind.
