Hopefully never full stop, though as and when everything goes download-only I'll pretty much quit it as a full-time obsession. Material possessionZ 4 lyfe, dawg. Or something. No, Mr. Houser - I only own something if I've got a physical copy of it in my sweaty little fingers, no arguments.

Videogames are a modern digital heroin.

When off games I had a gorgeous fiance, a high-paying job at one of the world's biggest corporations, an awesome pad, a speedy two-wheeled ride, plus I'd race yachts and talk shop with famous rich people in my spare time. My name was Horatio Bosch and I was a God amongst my chosen fellows. A gentleman of upstanding valor, known in the fencing circles of France and pistolier classes of western Spain. Breeding and riding horses was mere whim to me.

        BUT!

When on the dreaded games, I spend my spare time either playing games or drinking neat gin in an inner London rat hole while listening to 1980s punk rock music, thinking about the days when I wasn't on the games.

I wish I could travel back in time to when I was four years old, and tell myself, "Don't you even ****ing think of ****ing touching that ****ing Pacman arcade machine. You little scumbag."

I suspect you're being somewhat facetious but it's a valid point. I'd imagine everyone's playing habits change in line with their general circumstances. And if it was a choice between games and a beautiful fiance I know which one I'd be doing.

            Eye Candy! = very addictive

I'm not afraid to quit someday when I'm older but thats a long way away. I'm sure out of all the gamers on here a few of us will maybe? get ill someday and be forced to quit.

I could see myself maybe quitting the online gameing for a few years if I wanted a break from the net. But I will always have a few retro consoles lying about to play within that time.

It's weird, I never thought I would ever quit gaming, it's just a hobby that I've had since as long as I can remember and a part of my formative years.

Recently though, I've been playing less and less. Still buying games but never really getting around to playing them. As a lot of you know I work in games retail and I really enjoy talking about games, imparting my knowledge and opinion onto customers and knowing what is going on in the industry but playing games is becoming less and less a part of my life.

I attributed this, in part, to getting married two years ago but my wife is a massive Squenix fangirl and she still plays a hell of a lot of games.

I hope it's just a downer phase I am going through at the moment as it would be sad to think that I am "growing out of" one of my hobbies

If it isn't I can see me quitting gaming within the next 6 - 12 months

Well I am 50 next week and still play everyday. COD4 is an obsession with me. I have been playing since the 70's and bought every console that came out (PC Engine GT Express was way ahead of his time and I love it). And I will still be playing when I AM 70!

I can't ever see a time when I will quit. It's almost the same as me deciding I will stop watching football and supporting Sheffield Wednesday. It will never happen. I am 32 and have been playing games of one sort or another for about 26 of those years.
I am sure when I am in some sort of vegetative state in a few years then will be able to connect a few wires to my head and I can play that way.
The only depressing thing about all those gaming years is that I am still **** at most games. After 26 years you would think I would be a gaming god.

Hopefully gaming will continue to grow and improve as the age range of it's audience increases so there will be no reason for me to stop.
I have far less time for gaming these days but I cannot see me ever deciding to actually stop gaming.
How we play and where we play might change though.

I play a lot less nowadays than I used to even a couple of years ago, but that is down to work and other commitments. Part of growing older I guess.

One thing will never change though: my love of racing games. Like TheForce, I would have to be dead before someone managed to prise Forza away from me. Sad but true!

About 5-6 years ago, I was buying up every new release like some people on here. By the end of the last generation, I got to the point where I felt like I had seen it all. The next-gen big-budget fare on X360/PS3 and the prospect of the same old Nintendo franchises with motion control on the Wii didn't interest me very much so I started to scale back the amount of time and money that spend on games.

Now, I only buy a few new releases each year, like I used to do as a kid, but I play the **** out of them. I go for games that offer something different to what I've played before, right now it's titles like Patapon & Echochrome and later this year it'll be Little Big Planet.

I might be playing less but I'm enjoying it more than I have for a long time.

Sort of - I'll probably bring a DS with me to uni, but that's it. That'll be close enough to quitting.

I'm always telling myself to play less. I've been putting in too much time recently, a good 4 or 5 hours a day. I'm on a gap year, most mates are at uni, so aside from work, maybe a run a day, I'm barely out of the house.

Its a great hobby, but sometimes it can feel a bit mindless. I've just this morning wrapped FF XII up completely, having put in 130 something hours, maxed out most of my characters, beat every mark/boss etc etc. Was a great game, but thats a hell of a lot of time down the drain.

I will stop gaming when we have to insert something into our brains. Direct link from brain to game is a no go for me.

Lately I have not been able to shake the overwhelming sense I am wasting time when playing a game. It is quite a spooky feeling and often comes after I have just died or failed a task.
