To be honest i really can`t see this doing well. Technically it`s a generation behind the psp and with the psp having video playback, mp3 support, you can see which one the shops is gonna push. Also lack of innovative design with using the the other screen has dissapointed me upto yet with it being used for no more than a map screen. If sony can nail down the battery life of the psp and tbh i really cant see them messing that up, the DS might not be around for long. I hope i`m wrong cause i`m sure nintendo will bring out some fantastic games along the line for it but you can see the launch of the 2 machines now. Dual screen gets launched 1st, then sonys hype machine goes into overdrive hyping up the psp to be far more powerful than the ds etc etc and then you will get the store clerk say to the people who inquire about the ds that psp is out soon and far more powerful so wait for that. I hope that im wrong and that existing gba owners make the upgrade to DS instead but i`m in the corner of the psp looks a far more attractive package and i got my gba sp for my slice of nintendo fun.

e3 has confirmed the analyst talk previous to it; the DS & the PSP will *not* be in direct competition. everything screams it - there's no talk of video on the DS, just as there's no talk of IM on the PSP - even though both systems are capable of both applications.
different feature sets, different applications. different games too, by the looks of things. the success of one will not be the downfall of the other.
which means we get to appreciate both!

One game I would love to see come to DS is Advance Wars. Not the classic turn-based AW, much as it r0xx0rs, but the new-style one for the Cube.
I reckon it could make fantastic use of the two screens: half RTS and half thirdperson war game. The bottom screen would be the top-down gameworld, playing the tactical game - the stylus being perfect for selecting and deploying groups of units in battle.
The top screen could be used to take direct, over-the-shoulder control of particular units - controlled using the d-pad and buttons. Great multitasking would ensue. And link-up battles...
I can't wait to see what developers come up with for the DS. The first 'killer app' will be something to see.

I really hope that this takes off, its got too many good ideas to fail. The only problem so far is that the initial software range is uninspiring to be honest, updates of old games? No killer app at all, nothing new or original to show that this is not another piece of nintendo fodder. The graphics of each all look a bit rough but i`ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they aint been working as long on them as the sony efforts have. I shall wait and see what eventually comes out, most likely i`ll end up owning one but I still need slightly more convincing.....

I am really sold on this extra screen idea now - it basically gives you a totally flexible control method, just like one of those programmable remote controls.
Say you need extra buttons, thats no problem. Say you need a keyboard, thats no problem. It could even become some kind of map showing you who is connected to who in multiplayer games, or allow you access dynamically to the other people you are playing with.
It can even be dynamic in game, so say for animal crossing you will have a keyboard when you need it, or you can use it to perform other aspects of the game (e.g designing tshirts etc) while waiting in the main game, or doing something else - or it can even become part of the game for other sections.
I can suddenly see many new ways this screen can be used, and I dont think it is has a major impact cost wise on the unit (which I suppose most of us assumed to begin with).
Made In Wario/Ware Ware already has some great uses for the screen - it allows you to have a whole new style of games (cut here, touch here, draw here etc).

The XBox is technically superior to the PS2, but you dont see that outselling it do you, and it is even cheaper than the PS2!
The Lynx and Game Gear were both technically superior to the GB, but they failed.
I am sure many people will buy the PSP, and the features are already looking great to me, particuarly movies/music, but I am much more interested in the games on the DS.
People buy the GBA/SP for the games they offer, not the other features, and those people will then buy the handheld out of the PSP and the DS that gives them the games they want.
We all know $200 equates to ?200, and I dont see many kids here willing to pay that kind of money for a handheld...

Where did you hear that confirmed price? I can't believe that can sell it that low without taking a massive hit in the pocket.
If you got it from EB USA then its a pinch of salt price, as the DS is also currently listed for $199.99 and marked with Price, dates and full details and not yet confirmed. It's purely for the pre orders.
