Forget the two screen thing for a minute. Isn't anyone else excited by the possibilities of WiFi? Anyone??

Interesting use of the stylus pen in some of the games/demos.

Gamespot were promoting the $199 price point.

EDIT: Never mind. Not only did I not read the news article properly, but now I see it's for the DS anyway. Anyone got a dunce's hat?

And the simple answer to rjpageuk is this: Sony own the world, and Nintendo still have the kiddy image attached to them. The peer pressure on a random teenager will have him grasping for a PSP to link up at lunchtimes, and not a DS. Kids own parents, and parents own money, and money owns shopkeepers, and shopkeepers own kids, so the whole cycle will continue. Until Sony go bust or something.

Did the whole world react when PS2 only got 4MB of texture memory in it? Nope. It was Sony, so it sold.

I think you are underestimating Nintendo in the handheld market mate. They have far more streetcred at the handheld level, and a great way of reading the market.Besides handheld games are generally for the younger gamer anyway, the whole Pokemon phenomonem should prove my point there, and Nintendo really does have enormous respect and credibility with retailers in the handheld sector as well.

Imagine you're waiting for a delayed plane in an airport departure lounge.
Should point out, most airports now have wifi access. Multiplayer wouldn't be restricted to the airport terminal.

WiFi is really taking off in the states, so I think it'll be quite big there. Many caf?s, libraries and offices offer free WiFi. Plus a lot of people seem to be kitting out their homes with wireless routers.

Maybe I am, but then again who was expecting Sony to make such a huge splash with the PlayStation? Thanks to their marketing muscle and their competitors being slack, they succeeded. Can't help but Nintendo have taken their portable market for granted too.

Possiblly hank mate, possiblly.I guess we will just have to wait and see how this one pans out but I personally think that Iwata san is totally unlike Yamauchi and is taking nothing for granted. The Gameboy franchise is what keeps Nintendo alive now and I cannot see them giving that market up without one helluva fight.Has Sony the money to fight this battle,I mean it is no secret that they are not exactly the booming success they were in the Dvd market with their failure to read the market on the DvD rw front and all.The Psx hybrid console has hardly been the resounding success they were hoping for either.I don't know about you guys but I am starting to notice tiny little chinks on the Sony armour now they have been in this business a long time and possibly as shareholders are suggesting, they are starting to focus too much resources on the computer entertainment front. The ps2 has been the most successful but they have had a few failures on other fronts recently, keep that in mind, the market analysts are.

And is Nintendo slacking now?! Sony better come prepared, because if I would poll the opinions right now if people would buy a DS or PSP, the majority goes for the DS. Sony might want to use their marketing skills if they want to top the DS. Or releasing it sooner than the DS might help.

Hell, forget WiFi. I've finally watched the Pacpix video. Draw your own PacMan! Watch him come to life and gobble ghosts! Steer him by blocking his path with walls! If they can extend that into a full game, the stylus will be the thing. The way it's used in the Metroid demo is terrible, but this is something else. It honestly seems to provide the opportunity for entirely new ways of interacting with game worlds.

Gameplay innovation. Yes. I thought I wasn't going to see any.

Disappointed with the Pac'n'roll demo, though. At first, I thought it was demonstrating the motion sensor tech that Nintendo have supposedly been investing in - steer a spherical pac through a 3D maze by changing the angle you hold the DS at - but then the camera pulled away to show somebody moving him by rubbing the stylus along the screen. Shame.

ah.. but pac'n'roll.. you control the speed of your roll by the way you touch the screen... the faster you rub (ooer) the faster your roll.

                            Yeah, that was great.

I keep thinking they could make a great deathmatch mode out of that. Scribble an army of Pac-troops on your screen, and send 'em upwards to your opponent's DS! Two pacmen collide, the worst-drawn effort is obliterated! Tactical wall deployment results in inevitable chaos and much swearing!

Would be a laugh, I tells you. Like a version of Chu-chu rocket made in MSPaint.

I think this shot shows off DS power quit nice.

I just found out this system also has a mic, I wonder what that will ever be used for?
