But thats just BT being greedy though? They put sanctions on Dialup, no one else did.

I think this will be the same affair. At the end of the day, BTBroadband or Openworld or whoever, or BT themselves, dont decide on prices/costs to other ISP's. That's BT Wholesales job.

Other ISP's know that if they put caps on bandwidth, they'll lose customers

BT Ignite (formally BT.net) sell the backbone to ISPs. BTinternet/openworld were not the only dialup ISP to impose hourly restrictions, far from it. After starting it (I believe), almost every other ISP eventually followed suit. It is harder to find a dialup ISP which doesn't restrict these days, from what I've seen. Demon and Freeserve are notable exceptions.

btw, BTbroadband (and yahoo) is from the telephony side of things, and nothing to do with BTopenworld the ISP. I haven't heard of any restrictions from BTO, even on their lower accounts (unlike the most basic BTb package). Interesting.

I've got the same email and will probably upgrade to the 1mb connection and when the restrictions come into play I will see about changing ISPs.

I am wondering though how Xbox Live will be affected by all this?

Is there a cap on the 1MB lines, which is what I have?

When we originally went on to BB it took them like 4 weeks to come round so i politely told them to **** off with their 1MB connection. Ill probably get it set up when we go for a weeks holiday or something :P
Eh? I just went on there site last night put my phone number and account number in and the only options i got was Basic and 1mb as i'm already on Bt Broadband 512, ordered the 1mb and it's getting activated on the 12th. I have to stay with 1mb for 3 months so when it comes round to them introducing the caps, i'll switch to another ISP.

BT can get ****ed then. I'm pretty certain I download more than 15GB per month. Give me a 1mb line and I'd probably go over 30GB without much hassle.

First they complain that they're losing customers and then they do this. Morons.

Ginza mine took place over night, all I had to do was switch my PC off. By the morning I was on a 1 MB line, so Im not sure whoever told you that is right.

The thing I don't understand is why I can't upgrade to 1mb with BTYahoo.
I'm currently on 512K ADSL for ?27, they're doing 1mb for ?30. However they say I'm too far from the connection place to get this speed.
However, other ADSL providers that offer 1mb services, that presumably are using BT lines, say I can get faster than 512.
                      Dunno who is wrong though.

Probably going to cancel my contract and go for another provider soon TBH, BT are relatively expensive and I don't make use of anything they provide bar email.

Wanadoo have also introduced (or are later in the year) 30GB caps for 1MB users, which I'm paying over ?35 a month and is a bit of a joke. Before I got Broadband I didn't seriously think I'd ever get anywhere near to using up the full monthly allowance, but since I got the service roughly three weeks ago, I'm pretty sure I'm already over.

However, for the price I'm paying I think imposing caps is a little ridiculous. I can see myself almost certainly changing to a more competitive ISP when my 12 month contract runs out.

Is this because BT really can't cope, or is it just a ploy to bring in tiered (sp) payment structure's. It look's like the later to me.

Glad I live in a telewest enabled area, they aint the cheapest, but you don't get any of these restrictions, but maybe they will follow suit as well?. Then again I am sure people will be dropping the 3meg service in their droves if limited transfers where brought into effect.

                            What do you think?

You should consider your self lucky. In Ireland the cheapest you can get BB is ?30 for an 8gb cap or ?45 for a 16gb cap. This is with the cheapest company in Ireland and is for 512K only.

To make it worse Eircom are "working on my exchange" so I can't get BB till they finish. I asked when they'll be finished, they said they have to wait till they recieve an email from the technician in the exchange to tell them when its done. So I asked will they ring him, they said "No we can't ring him, we only email him"
