Having a gig of ram as certainly improved my overall PC using experience. And I haven't checked but isn't the XP3000 only a few quid more than the XP2600?

Though of course you can play that trick on yourself on all the kit your buying and end up spending far more than you'd like!

Nice! I still don't justify the Athlon 64 jump tho, not many things need 64 bit, but still you are future proofing your machine which is good. How much that machine set you back?

From what I read about Duffy's thoughts on the Internet (one of the lead programmers) he said that ultra mode and high mode produce very similar results.

I doubt you will notice much between the two modes. I reckon most people will be playing it on medium if you don't have the new ATI or Nvidia cards, but to be honest I reckon it will still look damn good. You could probably try playing it on high with a 9800PRO but you will come across a flucating frame rate, in places it will be ok and others bad. I still want an X800

Yes, it is future proofing. My PC is expected to last 3-4 years (as my current has) with only minor upgrades - Ram, graphics cards.

                      Full specs of the machine:

Mesh Midi Tower + 475W psu
                      Athlon 64 K8V Deluxe mobo
                      Athlon 64 3400 +
                      1024 MB PC3200 DDR Ram (2 x 512MB)
256 MB DDR GeForce 6800 ULTRA + TVOUT + DV
                      200 GB SATA HDD
                      Sony 8x DVDRW
                      Sony DVDRom
                      Logitech KB + Optical Mouse
                      Powercinema + remote
                      8 in 1 card reader
                      XP Home
                      3 years btb warranty

The cost inclusive of VAT & delivery is ?1,058.

The jump from Athlon 64 3200 to 3400 was the ?58 so I took it.

                      Not bad I reckon.

Its easy enough to get a x800 Pro now, its just impossible to find a x800 XT.

Apartently they are coming through in orders of 3-4 for each company, according to overclockers forums. Komplett also had some I think. Although they are all gone now.

Also if you looked at that ebay link I posted before, don't buy it. Seller seems to be a scammer! It was to good to be true after all.

I was going to get the X800 Pro until I saw the infamous benchmarks and, more recently, the tests in this month's PC Pro magazine which saw the 6800 Ultra destroy the X800 XT in the group tests.

I am sure in real life gaming they are too close to call, but I plumped for the Nvidia card in the end.

Where did you get the Ultra from may I ask, overclockers seem to think they are as rare as chicken teeth.

I got my 6800 Ultra two weeks ago from Scan. Worth every penny.
