Im finding it entertaining as it compells me to see what will happen next. At times its superb, but generally speaking its much as I thought it would be, an above average FPS offering nothing new other than its superb visuals and environment. Roll on Half-Life 2.

I'm not compelled to find out what happens next really, as the storyline is pretty linear and throws up no surprises. Shame, as the characters (although stereotypes) are well acted for a change, particularly in the PDA entries.
Also, it doesn't help that i'm not a huge FPS fan, and it has to be stunning for me to like it. I probably would have given Halo 8/10. That would have gone down well

I loved the plot. Then again, I love any kind of "We're stuck on mars with rampaging zombies and we're totally fooked" plots.
The game also succeeded in throwing up plenty of surprises. Just when you were getting bored with the mars base, you'd end up in Hell, and when Hell was beginning to suck, you moved on to more environments. Also, with the way you were drip-fed enemies throughout the whole game was great.
8/10 for me

F*ck me if this isnt the best game Ive played all year bar none, then I dont know what is. Its everything I could of wished for and more, it looks fantastic, sounds incredible and has the most intense, enthralling gameplay this side of Half Life. It saddens me when I see the amount of criticism the game gets here, Im not sure what people were expecting, its not a carbon-copy of the original its a evolution, and I defy anyone to play this with a capable PC in the dark with the sound (preferably surround) up high and not be gripped by this. I can also say its by far the most atmospheric and scary game Ive ever played, yes even more so that other killers like Alien Resurrection etc. Too many great moments for me, once completed I intend to go back through it again on the next difficulty level. Superb, 9/10.

Well I'm in the Alpha Labs at the moment and I gotta say... I'm getting slightly bored. For me, and others have mentioned it already, theres one word that I would use to describe the game; predictable.
By that I don't mean 'its just Doom', I have no problem with that. More its the lazy design and gameplay mechanics I'm talking about. I'm getting very tired of very little happening, until of course I come accross a useable monitor, at which point I say to myself..."Hmm I better save now before I click this screen..." What happens next? Yes you've guessed it, lots of enemies are triggered!
I'll still finish the game,I find FPS's easy to pick up and play for short bursts, but I hope things pick up in it soon...

I have no idea where people get this notion that its design is lazy from. The gameworld is sublime, and too many times I can mention Ive been caught by surprise by something I wasnt expecting. Gizmo, nothing is forcing you to save the game other than yourslef, if that is spoiling your enjoyment of it then dont do it. The game is at its best when you have low health and can die at any moment.

My god.. this game is just awful. The environments are so samey and confined. There's no room to manoever. The level design is absolutely dire. Give me Quake 2 over this ****e any day.
And the plot.. oh dear. System Shock 2 is a game that had suspence. The atmosphere in this is just hokum. And the logs are so lazily written. The first 10 I picked up were all variations on "I've been hearing.. voices. I think I'm going crazy" etc.Last edited by Molloy; 03-10-2004, 15:32.
