OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG !

I've done it. I've ordered the series 6 Panasonic.

Someone tell me again that I've done the right thing. I need a hug ( to numb the pain that's going to be caused by my Bank Manager having a right go at me )

Good stuff. Im tempted myself i have to say. My lack of a surround sound system, a seperate tuner and much knowledge on how this screen operates and gets connected up is stopping me at the minute. Its probably best i dont do too much research though until i sort a place to live.

Enjoy it mate, and post some pics when you have it up and running so that we can all drool!

Right so I've got my definitive question now:

My friend wants a 28" flat/thin display widescreenish....

Which in your humble and profound opinion is the best?

JibberX its probably worth starting a new topic for that, but...

Theres not many 28" LCD and no Plasma's afaik, i recommend the Thomson LCD27B03 which is 27" the 26" JVC is very nice aswell, but you can get the 30" Dabs LCD for cheaper than either of them (or dont they want one that big) Ive never seen the Dabs LCD though.

If you want cheapish then the Logix in currys is the same panel as the Thomson and its ?999.99

Ok, around the 28" range I should've said, so Thomson and JVC you say? I shall pass that on, I am not touching an unbranded device with a barge pole.

unbranded isnt much of a problem with Panels as they only do the wiring and not the actual panel.

E.g Hitachi Plasma's use Fujitsu panels.

Heres a review of the Thompson Link

Avoid the Philips 30" Ive tried 2 different models and they were both crap.

                  Will do.

AV-Sales are out of stock at the moment so I'm going to have to wait till next week

But at least that'll give me time for my cables and switcher etc to arrive as well.

Well done, what connections/equipment will you you putting into it?

Nothing (Ok, there are a few things) is better than getting some spanky new kick ass kit to play with.

Yep, new toys are always great.

I've gone the full component route for connections so it'll be progressive scan-a-go-go. My PS2 is an unchipped PAL version so there won't be many progressive scan games ( I think Ghosthunter is the only game I own with that option in ). I've got an NTSC Cube and Chipped X-box so these should work a treat.

I've opted for an additional SCART board as well as the standard VGA port so I can always use that for DVD's etc.

I've gone for the AVT-5842MX 4x2 Component Matrix Switcher ( I think its made by Scancom ? ) so that should make my life a little easier. A VGA to Component cable fed into that should make connecting a doddle too.

Big thanks to Neil again for all this advice on this subject. Between his posts here and over at the AVforums I managed to get my head around Plasma connections.

I can't wait for it to arrive so I can set it up and then spend the next few days calibrating it

Dabs one is starting to get mixed reviews, the latest Sony LCD's have good reviews but I find the digital noise on blacks on them unbearable. I would look at Sharp if I had to make a choice.

Out of interest whats wrong with it ?

search on avforums - basically lots of interference and it can't cope with progressive.

Doh ! My first mistake should have been searching on there I guess.

Edit :- Never mind I'm going to get that AA one I think
