What colour is that on your wall? You say it is the 'recommended colour' - I take it you mean for projecting straight onto the wall without a screen.

On your photo it looks greyish whereas I thought it should be as white as possible... I painted my wall pure white for my beamer, and was just wondering if this would maybe improve the picture ?? Was toying with the idea of buying a screen you see, but this might be another idea...

im not that up on projectors but dont they recommend grey/silverish colour for the screen as it creates better blacks.

Ok, I finally took delivery of my Panasonic Plasma yesterday finally and its already a case of serious

Component and progressive scan is just

Its sooooo much better than the Toshiba 36" CRT I was using before which had a dirty, washed out screen. Playing games is an absolute joy, and the colours are amazing.

Once I tidy up my room a little I will get around to posting some pics in the gaming setup thread as promised.

But somethings confusing me. I'm using a chipped Xbox to run the games in progressive scan via the official Hi-Def lead. The connection is going into the Plasma via a VGA to component lead ( still waiting for my AA switcher to arrive which is a real pain ).

Some PAL games just won't work ( mostly the older ones though like DOA3, but that's not a problem as I'm only playing it as a test and it still looks lovely without progressive ).

Whats bugging me though is Soul Calibur 2. Its a PAL copy of the game and for some reason when I play it, the Plasma won't switch aspect ratio's. It ends up with sizable black bars down the sides ( which on a Plasma is obviously bad for a prolongued period of time ), although its far too wide to be running on 4:3. Its odd cos I'm telling the Plasma to switch aspects on the remote, and it just won't do it

Anyone know why this is ? Is it 'cos its a PAL game perhaps ? Would a US copy fix this ?

If anyone can shed some light on this it'll be fantastic as I can't wait to bring my mates over and wow them with it.

Are the proportions of the game right though? I remember hearing something about this but as I'm not yet progressive scan enabled I didn't pay much attention.

Yep, it all looks in proportion.

If I try to stretch the horizontal picture manually to fit the screen, it looks awful

All Xbox 1080i games display in a 4:3 aspect.I dont know the technical details , sorry.

Try dropping the xbox settings to 720p.

Soul Calibur II displays 720p at 4x3, adding its own black bars in the process, which is why they won't go away, sorry. If you want 16x9 SC2, then you'll have to stick to 480p for some reason.

Possibly to do with the extra processing power required for higher levels of prog. scan making widescreen out of the question?

A quick question as i'm thinking of getting the Panny6. What is the quality of picture like when going into a plasma with a Scart lead? I know I'll obviously want to use component where possible but i'm just interested.

I've connected my DVD player via Scart. Looks lovely, although I'm guessing that Component will be better ( but a Component output DVD player will have to wait until after Xmas for me ).

Monsters Inc looked amazing when I tried it yesterday. I started it as a demo and ended up watching all of it.

Matrix Reloaded was an absolute joy to behold.

The Panasonic is amazing at reproducing dark shades - something I was really wary of after a friend got stung a while back with a crappy low resolution LG model from Comet. And it cost him ?4000 ! Ouch.

I'm going to give it a full run through tonight with the Dawn of The Dead remake.

When I can I'll post some pics

I'm looking into getting a projector as my room is the loft so it would be perfect

Any ones people would recommend for under a grand and also good sites to look at them and buy from.

What's a plasma like in daylight? If I got one (which I probably won't but my TV's slowly dying so I'm toying with the idea) it would have to be my full-time screen, so how does it compare to a CRT for daytime viewing?
