    Oh bugger

Maybe some nice new earphones? Or a darling case for the Nano? Or maybe just go ahead with the new Nano as you've hopefully earned a few bonus points for getting it to work another month

Was going to get her a Touch, but she's struggling to pick up her new phone (Nokia, she's been using S-E for a while) so that might be pushing it!

      Thanks again.

Probably a silly question, but is there a way to tell if a track on iTunes is an older 128kb/s aac or 256? itunes plus jobby, or have they all been converted by now?

I'm looking at what I'd imagine are popular songs to check but can't find any information about them.

All songs are 256kbs m4a (aac), have been for a while now...

Ok sweet. I was worried there might be some obscure stuff that's yet to be converted over, seeing as I'm only interested in some obscure stuff!

When are they going to start offering lossless as an option? I'd really much prefer to use iTunes at this point, but until I can get lossless I'm just not interested.

The software used by the record companies has offered that option for a while. But I think DRM free lossless would scare them silly.

not sure where to ask so here will do. I got a touch for my birthday and it seems pretty cool. i can't see myself buying anything off itunes anytime soon (i hate the idea of locked music files) but I just bought mass effect galaxy from the app store. i always dismissed the games on there as not really worth anyones time but on browsing through there looked to be a few interesting ones, mainly ports of older games like ridge racer, red alert and beneath a steel sky. anyone know if they are any good and if there is anything else worth looking out for?

Does anyone know how to disable artwork on the iPods? It used to be an option but has vanished since iTunes 9 and I have an 80gb Classic. Having artwork on the iPod annoys me more than anything as it makes the hard drive spin up unnecessarily when I'm flicking through songs in lists.

I suppose I could possibly stoop to just removing all my artwork completely from all my files but I'd rather not if I can help it (I like looking at the pictures!)

Just so you know, music files from iTunes aren't locked anymore - they're all DRM free now (AFAIK).

Loads of worthwhile games on the App Store - more than just ports. Check out toucharcade.com for some recommendations, but I'd recommend Orbital, Civilization Revolution, Fieldrunners, Doom Classic and Words with Friends/Chess with Friends for starters.

I have a 5th generation ipod and I'm just looking for some advice.

While my ipod is charging through mains it works ok; as soon as I take it off it cuts out immediately. I don't think that it's a problem with the battery as I recently fitted a new third party replacement (about the third one in as many years). When I hook it up to my P.C. a low battery error is displayed and nothing shows up under itunes.

                        Any ideas?

I'd guess that that's your problem. Were all 3 batteries 3rd party ones?

Word of advice, don't go down the cheapest/unsanctioned route with expensive technology. In the long run it will probably cost you more and you'll invalidate your warranty.

Edit: When I say warranty, your ipod might be out of the initial warranty period, but apple would still have repaired it to full working order or replaced it. As soon as you go tampering with the device in such a way, that option becomes closed off to you.

I think it is the battery, too. If it cuts out the moment you unplug, it means the battery is completely dead. If it stays on even for a few seconds after unplugging, then there's a bit of juice in the battery but still not enough. the low battery indicator is because USB ports don't give enough power to run an iPod, but the wall charger does. it's waiting for the battery to charge a bit before putting the iPod into full power mode, which I find takes around 5-10 minutes

I can't advise much on third party batteries much. I did install one in my old 30gb iPod and it was fine but it was a £20 one from maplin. I still think it was a cheap one repackaged by them, and maybe I got lucky.

If it were me, I'd go for an official battery from eBay that has been removed from an iPod as it's most likely genuine.

                              Quick problem,
I have just imported a cd to itunes. However when getting track names it comes up in French (I think!) . Is there a way to get these back in English?
                              Thanks.

Also on a thread somewhere(!) there was a link to some album artwork. Cant find it, would appreciate any help.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but does anyone know of any good freeware for transcoding a DVD to my ipod (after I've ripped it with DVD decoder)?

I've tried several, but the audio track always goes out-of-sync with anything over 30 minutes in length (not good for films then).
