Your smartlist will be on your Ipod, everytime you add a song to your Ipod which matches the criteria set (i.e. all 4* and 5* songs) then they will be added to the playlist. I mainly use the smartlist and think it's a great tool.

Excellent, so if I were to rate a song on my ipod (not connected to the computer) it would automatically go in that playlist?
At the moment I have to use Media Player to create my auto playlist then drag all the songs into a normal playlist. Then I have to use software to drag the playlist onto my mp3 player which then uploads any new songs or adds songs already on the mp3 player to my playlist. Very annoying. Almost worth spending ?300 on a photo ipod to get it fixed

Really basic question here and I apologise if it has been explained before but there are 50 pages of posts here! I checked the iTunes help and couldn't find it. I just got an iPod but have actually been using iTunes to manage music anyway so it was easy to transfer files to the iPod. Trouble is I use iTunes on two computers and, when I connected it to the second, it asked me if I wanted to associate the iPod with that computer and completely replace the contents of the iPod. Is there a way I can transfer my songs from both computers to my iPod?
TIA,
Dogg.
Edit: Actually just figured it out (I think). All I had to do was do it manually. That's assuming my songs are still there when it finishes...Last edited by Dogg Thang; 20-01-2005, 17:19.

I got my iPod back from apple, and those brilliant people gave me a brand new one. Seriously, there is no way it can be referbished because it is perfect. I had a laser ingraving in mine and they ingraved it as well. It's perfect. Not a blemish. Pity it's still a G3 model, not an upgrade, that would have been the bollocks.
I'm a very happy man though.
For some reason though, iTunes copied every song from my PC across, including those that are seleceted not to be copied... any reason why, or any way to rectify it?

Another iTunes question
The old version of iTunes had a useful feature - when I deleted a song from your library, it also gave me the option to delete the song file. Since I've downloaded a couple of iTunes updates, it doesn't do this any more, and just leaves redundant files to fill up my hard drive. I can't find an option to switch back on the file killer, so I end up having to manually check what's on my drive against what's on iTunes; with 2,500 tracks, it's getting to be a bit of a pain in the arse, to be honest.
Anybody know a way around this?Last edited by DaiSuki; 20-01-2005, 21:32.

As far as I know it won't give you that option if the song appears in another playlist but will give it to you if the one you are deleting is the only instance of that song. Not sure if there's a way to force delete it (I'm new to iTunes) but if you make sure that the song doesn't appear in any playlist you have it should ask you if you want to delete it.

hi
my ipod will not play any songs. When a song is selected it wil just skip through all of the songs in that particular folder without playing any of them.
There seems to be a lot of movement going on in with the memorey/drive thing, making a bit of sound.
I tried to reset the thing but when connected to iTunes it just made the computer screen freeze and I had to start up the computer again.
Will call apple tomorrow but in the meantime does anyone know what it could be/suffered the same/know if there is ANY hope at all?

Nah, don't even bother calling Apple tbh. Goto:
Learn how to set up and use your iPod touch. Find all the topics, resources, and contact options you need for your iPod touch.
And scroll down till you see 'Fill in service request form' or something. A UPS man will arrive at your house in a day or two to pick up your iPod and replace it.
My iPod was bust when I got it too, I reckon it's cheaper for Apple to simply keep replacing lots of iPods than QA all of them.

I think it's because when you make those special iTunes settings under the 'iPod' tab, those settings get recorded to the iPod too. Hence, new iPod, reset of iTunes iPod settings.
If that made any sense whatsoever.

Yeah, the refurb ones are apparently new G3 iPods, I think it said somewhere in the thread earlier. I was hoping they may put a 12 hour battery in, but I doubt it... Still, a brand new iPod is certainly something to be pleased about.
Tbh, that didn't make much sense... Which are the special iPod settings? I think I'll just download the newest firmware and give the iPod a factory reset...

Has anybody had static shocks or crackling off their ipod?.
Mine seems to be seriously trollied. I wear it at work while i'm out delivering (i'm a postie) and I have to reload my bag on occasions which means emptying a mail sack. These sacks carry a bit of static and i have experienced mild shocks through my ears aswell as cracklin and fizzing noises even when its turned off. In the last few weeks it seems to have seriously affected the sound quality with the left channel being completely bollocked. This problem is intermitant and at the mo it's fine. Its definatly not the headphones as i've tried other pairs.
I'm sending it for repair but is this problem likely to rear its ugly head again? I got the ipod mainly for work and i'm completly lost without it.

Can i ask you guys a question? Basically my pc has been wiped off so all my itunes library has disappeared. But, i do not want to lose all my music on my ipod. Now if i connect my ipod to the pc and only itunes, the program will automatically update the ipod and will make me lose all songs. I realise that i can manually update it, but that involves connecting the iPod to iTunes and selecting the ipod symbol on the bottom right corner or itunes and selected that option, but by the time that happens it will already have updated the library (0 songs)
A suggestion that i have come up with that my or may not work, is reinstalling itunes and hoping that the default settings will be that it manually updates ipod. This way i dont have to lose my tunes. Will this work do ya reckon?
Cheers
