ipod help, music appears to have gone

ok, i'll try and explain this as simply as i can, there appears to be no music left on my ipod, i went to listen to a playlist this morning and there was nothing on it at all, no music, no playlists, nothing. When i connected back up to the pc and itunes, it would appear to auto-update and in the window where it would normally show the library on the ipod there was nothing, but it would still state that there was 3.xx gb space used with xx amount free space. and no matter how many times i try to update it, it doesn't put the music back on there, i dunno what to do next to be honest, anybody got any ideas?

Try holding down the center and menu button for about 10 seconds to restart it the iPod.

There's a Factory Reset option, anyone remember how you access it?

thanks for the suggestions, tried resetting and restoring factory settings, i downloaded the latest ipod updater and it failed due to a disc write error on both the factory reset and on trying to update to the latest ipod software (its a mini btw), don't know exactly what that means wether it's a problem with my computer (which has a mountain of problems at the moment which i neither have the means nor the money to repair) or the ipod itself.

Anyway, if anyone has any idea what might be happening here please don't hesitate to post, thanks again.

hi, i'm currently having 'issues' with my ipod mini so i thought i'd post it here aswell in the hope of getting a wider audience and more chance of someone who might be able to help or might've had similar problems themselves, anyway this is the thread where i first posted the problem.

            regards

Edit - the original thread appears to have been integrated into this thread and can be found about 5 posts previous to this one

Windows? Make sure you can see hidden files, and then use Explorer to see if you can find where the space has gone. It almost sounds like the music directory has been renamed, or something.

Experts - would booth83 kill his iPod if he got Windows to reformat it?

the last time i connected and a window opened there appeared also to be nothing on there, i've enabled hidden files.

Only problem is now it won't even let me explore it, only telling me the drive needs to be reformatted, i'll wait and hear the experts view before i take that step.

btw, itunes no longer opens whilst the ipod is connected or shows it in the sidebar, it won't even switch on properly now, it shows a picture of a battery with an exclamation mark, which is odd because its on charge every time i have my computer on lately so it can't mean low battery.

Just hope this isn't the end, i planned to take it on holiday with me in june and can't afford to replace it before then.

If I want to transfer my music from my iPod onto another computer, could i do that from a Windows PC to a Mac?

There's a guide on the Apple site, so I'd just use that, but my worry is that I'll have to re-format it into Mac...

Would it be ok? Or is that what your link doesn? =/

Does anyone know of any software (Mac) that allows you to rip a CD as one single track? I have loads of mix albums that are spoiled when they have gaps on the ipod.

iTunes doesn't do it automatically, but it will if you ask it.

I can see the option to have no gaps when you burn a CD. But I don't see an option when you rip (import) a CD...
