I can't get that code to work on my player, which is a bugger I don't even get the menu screen in HDMI. Just nothing at all.

Worst thing is I got it as a gift from a shop back home, so i don't have the receipt and I'm not taking a 2 hour journey to swap it

Can you switch the player to output in NTSC?

If worst comes to the worst, get an adaptor to attach to the DVI I suppose.

Try entering the code with the player connected via a different method?

I've tried everything, PAL NTSC component composite 480p 576p 768p,720p, 1080i blah blah blah, I still only get the stupid pastel blue screen when I change to my HDMI channel.

I don't think it has anything to do with the HDCP thing, its like the HDMI port doesn't work on the DVD or the TV.

Unless of course you LG people get the same pastel blue thing on your PAL setting?

Hmmm curious, I just plugged the player into my monitor using the provided DVI lead.

THe menu displayed on it, but as soon as it came to the DVD playback, I got the same pale blue screen, in both NTSC and PAL modes

Does this happen in all resolutions, or just 720p/1080i?

It's strange though. My Oppo runs in both 720p and 1080i through both DVI and HDMI fine - but the Oppo doesn't have HDCP... not sure if this is the key point here.

HDCP should only kick in for 720p/1080i though (and even then, it should still work through the DVI port).

EDIT - btw we're discussing the HDCP thing here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showt...231563&page=26 everyone seems to agree it's a firmware bug that LG should be made aware of.

It was doing it at all resolutions on the moniter (but displayed the samsung menu) and on the TV it would display nothing.

I gather its a fault with the player, are there any other samsung oweners with the player?

In light of all this, should I buy an Oppo now instead of a HD950? I'm willing to go for either, just which ever is less hassle. The HD950 is cheaper so I imagine it wont be better than the Oppo? Does HDMI make the picture better or should I just go for Oppo since I have an LG. What you think Jake since you have Oppo and LG.

The Oppo is a fantastic player, and the company has the best customer service I've ever seen. They're constantly improving the player with firmware updates when they could have just left it as is.

It is now (I believe) the highest ranked player on Secrets of Home Theater and HiFi with 98% after being re-tested with newer firmware. (it scored very highly before it too)

Oppo has now got a new remote (I believe this is the 3rd one now) and they're giving it away to existing owners at no cost other than shipping. (existing owners, see here: http://oppodigital.com/products.asp)

It does still have an occassional, slight, lip-sync issue when combined with some displays, but the image quality is more than worth it in my opinion. (and knowing how good they've been at adding things like 2:2 pulldown, I expect they will eliminate entirely it in future)

I can only say positive things about the Oppo.

Looks excellent, I've got about 300 DVD's and never had a problem with any of them. Runs everything I throw at it, DivX (including DRM'ed), XviD, Mp3, OGG and OGM (!), Jpeg, WMA, whatever, and supports most subtitle formats.

Sound output is excellent to my Logitech Z-5500's, through both Coaxial and Optical, and it has analogue 5.1 outputs and Pro Logic II upmixing. Firmware updates are regular, so much that I check every day just in case. They seem to be really paying attention to the forums, because the additions to each new firmware update seems tie in exactly with what people are asking for at AVForums, AVSForums and whatnot.

I did have a small issue when connecting to HDMI where I would get sparkles, but that's probably my HDMI cable (it's a cheap throwaway one).
I have it hooked up to DVI and it's fine.

True thing, I was watching Spirited Away the other day, my bro walked in and assumed it was a HD rip. While the quality obviously isn't as high as a HD encode, I think it does show that upscaling and the player end, using a scaler designed for the job and intergrated into the process, can generally benefit.

btw LG seem to be telling people the HDMI HDCP issue will be fixed.

Interesting what you say about LG Shakey.

I've just had a reply from their customer service department. They told me :

                        - There are no firmware upgrades available at the moment. Also there are none planned.

                        - There is no fault with the HDMI socket. According to them the brochure clearly states that there is only one HDCP enabled socket, which on this model is the DVI socket.

Also, and maybe i'm just in neurotic mode now, but i've noticed another little fault on the set which can be kind of annoying. If the PSM option is set to anything except DYNAMIC there is a humming sound from the top of the TV. No idea why this happens. To check it out press mute and switch between DYNAMIC and any other option and you'll notice it. Obviously not a biggie for normal use but late at night when i've got the volume below 30 its quite noticeable.

Interesting LG are telling different people different things.

They're technically incorrect, as the HDMI supports HDCP fine - as long as the input is NTSC, which can only be a bug.

I've called samsung, they are going to replace my DVD player.

I'm having a bad start to the new year: Pain and Dissapointment

From the looks of things, LG's being over-run with people contacting them about the HDCP issue, as it's being discussed everywhere. They're telling different people different things - one person was told a firmware update was ready and they were waiting for equipment from Korea to flash it o_O Othere are being told the HDCP works fine and it's the DVD Player at fault (bollocks). Guess we'll wait and see what the real deal is. But at least they've been made aware, and have seen what a big fuss it's caused.

If they do release a firmware update, how do we install it?
