Looks like i too am joining in the party

Tomorow, i will be ordering myself a new 26" LCD TV and the winning contender is the LG 26LX2R.

I also liked the look of the Toshiba 27WLT56 as it has recieved excellent reviews and is a little cheaper, but def lacks a component input which is pish. i know you can get a component to VGA adaptor and use the VGA input but i want to run my PC through the TV as well.

so it looks like the LG is getting ordered.

anyone got any last minute objections?

I only got a component cable for my 360 and all my other consoles with RGB until i can't get the funds to source component cables for them all and a switcher box. then an upscalling DVD player. Man this is getting expensive.

No objections here, I have one and everythings great. It's RGB picture for the current gen is fine and the 360 in hi def is grand

You'll be needing a VGA cable for that 360 though, the LG seems to process VGA signals much better than component and it's especially noticeable on the 360.

Just to reiterate what Geezer said. I use the same unit.

The official PS2, GC and Xbox component cables are all good - I personally don't think much of upscaled SD videogame content (bar the DC's) on HDTVs, but the actual overall quality of the picture is fine (i.e. no ghosting, bleeding).

The 360's component though does possess (what is in my eyes) significant image-doubling at 720p which can be a constant distraction, and odd flickering (most notable on black backgrounds) at 1080i. I'm waiting to get hold of the mentioned VGA cable, be it first or third party - as then I'd have reason to set the 360 back up.

Oh, almost forgot to mention. VGA is eye wateringly lovely using the PC or any other connection through it that I've tried.

Thnks for the replies dudes. I'm gonna go for the Lg then and get it ordered.

I guess component on the 360 will do for the time being till i get some sort of VGA switcher box.

It's a shame if component on this set is lacking.

          Thanks.

The Component isn't bad or anything, you just don't go back after you've used VGA.

I reckon Component will have limited usages anyway, given the PS3 will have HDMI, and I'm hoping the Revolution will give us a wider range of HD hookups than just Component.

Nice choice mate, I too have the LG and rate it highly (not because I have one!)

Component is definetly not lacking on my set. I dont get any of the shadowing on the 360 and the Xbrick is also great through component. Have yet to try the PS2 & Cube through component, but as Concept has said its still good.

Just been reading a topic on the AV Forums about those LG's, Its looks like HDCP isn't enabled on the HDMI port.

                  Hmm strange..
The DVI-I port supports HDCP too so its a strange move not offering it on the HDMI port if it is indeed true, I assumed previously that to be HD-Ready, the HDMI had to support HDCP but indeed its not the case, as long as the DCI or HDMI port does, then it meets requirements.

The LG site lists the specs as:
                  HDMI
                  DVI-I (With HDCP)

Thats a bit of a slap in the face if that is the case then..
What will happen with Sky HD now, and also PS3, doesnt the HDMI port need to support HDCP for PS3 to work, part of the copy protection on the Blueray discs?

PS3 will work with high end sets more than HDCP enabled HDMI. Blu-ray film media may not be viewable, but Sony would be committing suicide in the face of Microsoft if they left their HDTV options to HDMI only. Component and VGA are almost a given to be supported.

It means switchboxes are going to be a must next gen. I see VGA being the common standard in replacing Scart RGB.

                        No HDCP support over HDMI.

It does support HDCP over HDMI, they just don't state it because it's assumed.

DVI isn't necessarily going to be HDCP-capable if it's intended for PC use, but luckily it does support it.

There's bound to be hacks/ways around it. I wouldn't worry yet.

The HDCP-capable DVI saves the day though.

I did assume it was required for HD-Ready certification though.

EDIT - Oddness. Some of them state HDCP over HDMI works for NTSC material, but not PAL. Others state it does not work at all.
