Good enough for me.. So you are using the HDMI socket, on the LG tv, running PAL DVDs in 720p and 1080i.
    And everything works perfect?

If this is the case then how can some people say its not working at all for them..

    Tr?s confusing..

Surely playing PAL region 2 DVDs while the player was set to NTSC would result in some frameskipping problems if you know what i mean?. PAL being 25fps & Ntsc being 30fps.

That's definitely my setup-what kind of problems are people experiencing?
I almost connected it via DVI, but the HDMI cable carries the audio too so it's less clutter in terms of cables so I took that route.

I haven't noticed any problems, but theoretically what you say should be correct. I must confess I haven't used my player very much at all, I've just used it to watch season 1 of Lost (R1) and a handful of movies (UK R2) thus far. Throughout it's been set to NTSC and I alternate between 720p and 1080i.

I think that nowadays they have ways round it, most LCd tvs convert everything to 60hz anyway

So we can confirm that HDCP-complaint NTSC content does work through HDMI, but HDCP-compliant PAL content does not?

Not the end of the world then, as we all mostly go that route anyway I'm sure.

There is an HDCp hack for the hd950 incase it helps anyone

              1. HDCP-Free: Requires only DVD Remote.
              2. Power On DVD player, wait until "no disk" display
              3. Press "Angle"
              4. then number on the remote "4", "3", "2", "7"
              5. TV Screen displays "HDCP Free"
              6. Press "Angle" to turn off the "HDCP Free" display
              7. Try 1 more time from step 1-6 (HDCP Free will display)

this also allows 720p/1080i through component.

It does potentially bring up the issue of importing an NTSC PS3 (a likely event considering SCEE's poor release scedule/first/third party conversion rate over the years) if people want to use blu-ray media on their LG using a console.

As far as i know , HDCP actually has some form of region coding as part of its specification, so those of use wanting to use a JPN or US machine may not even be able to do that!

                    Region coding Video Signals!? ?_?

that would just be the ****ing pits if it turn out to be true. No way in hell am i buy a PAL PS3. But it WILL obviously work over component or an alternative connection, but the loss of feature like a HDMI conection might just have to be something we all grin and bear with.

But how likely will all LCD or plasma TV with HDMI will not support NTSC HDMI Signal, then it wouldn't sell if people find out. Maybe it is one affect one model. Perhaps there will be firmware patch.

The issue has been brought up at AVForums again and no-one seems to be able to make up their mind about whether the TV supports HDCP, whether it's NTSC only, whether it's HDCP 1.0 or 1.1... I've emailed LG about the issue, and the likelyhood of a firmware update (pushing the fact that this screen is their flagship budget screen and what a commerical balls-up it would be for them ).

Doesn't bother me too much, as I'm already planning to go NTSC with the PS3. SCEE have screwed me over twice, they ain't gonna do it a third.
Heck, if push comes to shove, I'll just use the DVI interface - that's confirmed to support HDCP in both PAL and NTSC.

I don't think there's anything in HDCP to do with region - I think the region aspect is a part of ACSS which is a little different.

I can get the Samsung PS42S5H model through work for ?1,350. Worth it?

                            Digital Video Essentials DVD

I have it on order from play.com as it help you to set up TV properly. Would I be able to do it without listening to the voice off the DVD.

Is it good investment or waste of money ? I have THX stuff already.

That's a ****er, though in your case you can enter the code to turn off HDCP.

The people at AVForums all agree that it's a firmware issue (as the HDMI port itself does have HDCP - as it kicks in on NTSC content), so we're pestering LG for a firmware upate
