Well, I hope your local service centre is a lot better than mine; I was without my 32" Samsung LCD for exactly four months!

It's only just been returned to me this week, and sent off to the retailer for a refund now.

I've got a Philips 37PF9830/10 coming to replace it though.
(been without it so long I can now afford the high end stuff)

I've had a hard time deciding on a TV after being disappointed with some aspects of the Samsung LE32R41BX, so I figured I'd buy (arguably) the best LCD television out there just now and see how it is.

I'm still unsure about it, but I have 14 days to evaluate it, and if it's not suitable, then there's no other display available in the UK that I'd be happy with, and I'll just have to wait for the next generation of displays.

1920x1080, 6ms, DVI-I with HDCP and HDMI, ambilight, motorized stand, NXT speakers, Pixel Plus 2HD processing etc.

After owning an LCD TV before though, I now know what to look out for when evaluating it, and I have a Spyder2PRO Studio hardware calibration device to set it up properly.

Ooh that is one sexy TV i wasn't even aware there were any 1080p until I saw it on the phillips site a few weeks ago.

What was the problem with your samsung?

I looked at these before I opted with the Samsung, very nice TV's - the price just seemed a little over the top for what you got at the time though. They are not 1080P, if I remember correctly Phillips are supposed to of retracted this from the site. Something to do with the res being there, but not the processing in the TV for 1080P. Guess it could of been updated with it now though !

Oh well, I spoke with a nice chap at Samsung customer service, and he has assured me that this is not a fault with the TV, and is an inherent problem with LCD technology. He has advised me that a bright image which refreshes to black, will retain the original image until that area has been refreshed with a bright image again He then started to liken it to the images which you receive by e-mail and stare at until an image appears, at which point I started to tune out a little

He advised that the original e-mail should not of been sent, and the advisor who sent it would be reprimanded, for incorrectly advising a customer. He appreciated that I was probably more concerned about the fault now I had the e-mail, and therefore said that they would arrange for an engineers visit to check the set if I required, but said the problem with that was that the engineer would likely report "no fault" if he only see's image burn / retention, Samsung would then refuse to pay his bill, and payment would then fall to me.

I'm none the wiser now tbh, the guy seemed genuine, at least from the point of view that the TV was working correct for a "Samsung LCD". I will continue to review it over the weekend, and check if it occurs on DVD's, and if it does start to really bother me, then I will just use their e-mail confirming a fault, to get the retailer to swap it out. Can't be bothered to box and send back this behemoth unless I have to though.

Oh, and he advised that it would not be happening in HD through the 360, due to the much higher refresh rate, which would make the ghosting impossible to see. Not sure about that tbh !

Very strange; I hadn't seen that on my Samsung 32" LCD, and it doesn't happen on my 17" Powerbook, or any other LCD I've seen.

Yup, would seem that mine is SPECIAL Got a 17" sony laptop as well, and that does not do the same. They recommended I switched off the auto brightness and the dynamic contrast which would lessen the effect, but as these are already off thats not much use

On mine its when a white is surrounded by black and its like the pixels are cooling down from being white and turning black again

The Sammy is not a good choice if you have a budget of ?800 - look at the Panasonic for a start, in a different league to the Sammy.

Totally agree, get a Panny LXD52 if you have ?800 to spend, different ball game once you set them up properly.

If I had a budget of ?1100, which 32" hi-def screen would you guys suggest for gaming? I'm sorely tempted by the Samsung, but I was wondering if there are any new screens out in that price range which are superior.

I would go for the 32LXD52, not sure what price you can get that for but the 26" is a great screen.

                          I hated the 32" Samsung.

I've finally made my mind up on what i'm gonna buy (i think).
I'm gonna go for the Panny TH37PV500. Anyone else on here got one?

That is a great screen, different league to any LCD available.

Or if you want the ultimate in current flat panel picture quality go for the commercial verison.

AVForum 42" package price ?1,945.00 inc VAT & delivery (UK mainland)

The 42" panel is actually pretty much the same size as the 37" PV500.

You do need an external tuner, either sky, freeview or cable and obviously some speakers, any stereo amp and speakers will do or surround system.
You also can add extra input cars as and when you need them, so if you want 2 hdmi inputs, 1 scart and 1 component you can have that, or maybe you prefer 1 vga, 1 component 1, 1scart and an hdmi?

The PV500 is the best all-in-one TV available, walks on the Pioneer 436xde imho, but if you want the ultimate go for the panel.

I know its a long shot, but is there anyone here who happens to have a spare HDMI cable that they could lend me to let me find out if either the HDMI lead I got with my dvd player is **** or if My TV is broken.

I'm kinda hoping its the **** lead, I just don't wanna spend ?30 only to find out its the TV
