Few shots of DVD's through the sammy HD950 @ 720P into the 40" LCD. Bottom pic shows the noise I was referring to in the sky of the Top Gun shot !

          Thats pretty!

I need to get an upscaling player soooon! I think I'm gonna have to go for the Oppo though since I'm an LG owner. Better safe than sorry.

If LCD's don't suffer from image retention, then what is this called :

You can clearly see on the left side of the screen, a shadow of the last scene which was displayed. This shadow occurs when the screen goes from a bright scene to a dark scene, and only remains until the area is used again by another scene. Most noticable during adverts, i.e. advert is shown, black screen pops up between adverts, and on this black screen you can see a shadow of the last scene in the last advert shown. Shadow disapears as soon as the next advert comes on. Only seems to be noticable on freeview through RGB, have not noticed anything like this on 360 through component or DVD through HDMI. Very strange, anyone else seen the same effect ?

that's pretty odd... not noticed anything like this on our 40"s. *puzzled*

My Tv does that too, you can only see it very faintly and you can only notice it on an edit of a TV or DVD. It takes like 3 seconds to fade away, I thought that was a normal thing for LCDS.

THe top gun one, I don't understand

I've e-mailed the picture of the shadow to Samsung, see what there explanation is. They do refer to screen burn at the front of the manual for my TV though, and I bet they will just point to that.

The Top Gun shot was supposed to show the grain / noise type effect I've been moaning about. If you look at like the top right of the image, you can see that it contains some noise. I presume this is just down to the quality of the transfer, but was not sure !

Is that the old transfer or the relatively recent remastered one? Because the original was utterly ****e. The new one is still a bit grainy, because Tony Scott shot it on ****ty Super 35.

I thought you were talking about the bloody great moire effect on the left hand side, but that's presumably a camera artifact then.

That DVD player we have really does highlight any marks or dust from the FIlm when they transfered it, thats probably what it is.

Tis the latest 2 disk !

It is the grain I'm referring to, even find this on The Rock, although to a much lesser extent. The other effect is my rocky hands and the camera as you suspected

The Rock is the Criterion 2 disk Special !

Sounds like it could be a Samsung fault, which others are suffering from, but not getting too far with Samsung in getting it fixed http://www.avforums.com/forums/showt...aptain+samsung

EDIT : Quick responce from Samsung to the image which I sent :

I'll try and give them a call if I have a bit of time this afternoon, find out what the deal is. I expect a like for like swap tbh though as I've only had the set 1 month today ! If they won't do it then I'll go after the retailer, waited to long for my flat panel to take second best now !
